The frantic pace of modern life can make us feel a bit worse for the wear sometimes. And while taking out time for oneself to do the things you enjoy is helpful, there’s nothing like taking a self-care trip to recharge your batteries. Often, especially when you live in your converted bus full-time and spend so much time on the road, taking time out of your schedule to find activities that enliven you and enrich the soul is beyond important.
Here are a few ideas on where to visit if taking a trip is on your agenda.
Seattle, Washington
Seattle is a popular destination for anyone looking for a change of scenery. Moreover, Seattle offers the best of both worlds: a stunning skyline and breathtaking natural beauty, which will make it easier to forget about all your worries - at least for the time being. If you’re planning on staying longer or if you should happen to consider relocating at some point in the future, then after scoping out the area in your bus conversion, renting a home in Seattle is affordable to do. Overall, Seattle is a great city to visit if you need a change of scenery, but you still want to explore the diverse places and cultures that Seattle has to offer.
Orlando, Florida
Orlando is a great place to get plenty of self-care. Visiting the city offers a wide range of activities you can enjoy during the seemingly endless sunny days, not the least of which is feeling like a kid again by visiting Disney World. What better way to have fun and relaxation?
As you plan your trip, consult online resources detailing how to head to Disney and where the bus parking is, without breaking the bank. Read more here to find great deals, advice, and a rewards program, and to start planning your trip.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Also in Florida, nothing beats a day at the beach if you’re looking to escape the busyness of everyday life. And in Fort Lauderdale, you’re sure to be spoiled with panoramic, breathtaking views of the ocean if being cooped up indoors is not your scene at all, as is most people who travel in a bus conversion. A dream destination for retirees (because of the affordability of properties) and holidaymakers worldwide, Fort Lauderdale is a fantastic place to visit should you decide to do so!
Austin, Texas
Make a trek across the state in your bus conversion to visit Austin. There is plenty of great music and amazing food to enjoy as you put your feet up or grab your Cowboy boots for some dancing downtown. And there are plenty of campgrounds for you to park there while visiting and across the state of Texas so you can meander your way through the very big, Lone Star State.
Parking can sometimes be challenging in these cities, especially if you are in a large RV or bus conversion, even more so if you are towing a vehicle. There are plenty of ways to find parking. Try Apps like Harvest Hosts, iOverlander, Allstays, Camp Finder, etc. You might have to visit the destination by day and find a camping spot further out from the city. But that can be part of the bus life magic. So, don’t be afraid to venture into those bustling cities.
Houston, Texas
Houston is another one of those places you just have to see if you enjoy the calming effects of nature on your mind and senses. Take, for example, The Great Texas Birding Trail if you find bird watching particularly relaxing. That’s not to say you can’t find fun and exciting indoor activities to do. Moreover, if the sports scene is more up your alley, you can get a good deal on Astros or Texans tickets if you want to see your favorite team playing in person and the stadium always has room for bus parking.
Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta is a city that has both natural and urban beauty. And given that it’s referred to as ‘The City in the Forest,’ it’s no wonder so many people are flocking here to see one of the world’s largest aquariums. Simply put, Atlanta is a city jam-packed with fun activities for the whole family. And if you’re in the mood for some sightseeing to distract you from the worries that may be weighing you down.
San Diego, California
San Diego is a city with charm unlike any other. You will find plenty of relaxing activities for the soul in this one-of-a-kind destination. For one, it has endless beaches to explore to unwind and de-stress the mind, which are also great places to park your bus and relax.
If you find being around animals therapeutic, then a visit with the family to the San Diego Zoo is a must-see. Overall, PlanetWare notes that San Diego is rated as one of the top places to visit and even live if you crave outdoor living and the therapeutic benefits that come with being out in the open.
If you fall in love with one of these cities after visiting it in your bus conversion, consider purchasing a vacation home there! Good Financial Cents notes that having a vacation home that generates revenue is a great way to make passive income while on the road.
The beauty of a vacation home in a desirable area is that you can rent it out when you aren’t using it, which makes the cost a lot more palatable. Or you can go in on the purchase together with a few friends and divide up the year amongst you. A vacation home with a place to park your bus is a plus but be sure to check out the city ordinances before buying, as many do not allow you to park a large vehicle on your property.
Make Your Work and Travel Life More Compatible
You can also use your reset trip as an opportunity to make other life changes. For example, update your resume using a resume builder so it’s ready to send out when you get home so you can find a job you actually love, perhaps one that offers great PTO (Paid Time Off) perks so you can travel more often.
On the other hand, you may have a job that allows you to travel or work remotely. In that case, take full advantage! Instead of flying, take your bus and enjoy the journey in between work obligations. Or book a few extra days at your destination so that you can unplug and relax.
If you work remotely, consider the digital nomad life that allows you to travel to different states and make money while you enjoy the scenery. You might find that it suits you beautifully. Just remember to save your receipts so that you can expense or deduct work-related expenses along the way.
Choose Travel as Your Self-Care Practice
If you feel like life is getting the better of you, and you need to take some time for yourself, you should take heed of these warning signs to make sure you get the rest you deserve.
Moreover, because self-care is essential to our overall well-being, we should be taking the time to do those things that fill us with joy, even if that means taking a reset trip more often than not, which is very easy to do if you own a bus conversion!
