Meet Whitney: The Evolution of Boho Vans’ Rental Fleet
Since our appearance on Shark Tank in 2020 and our partnership with Barbara Corcoran, we've continued to grow not just our van custom-build operation but also our rental fleet. Each rental van serves as both a revenue generator and a real-world testing ground for new ideas and technologies.
Building a rental van presents unique challenges. Unlike custom builds designed for specific clients, rental vans must serve dozens of different customers throughout the year, each with their own expectations and adventure plans. Whitney had to be versatile enough for a romantic weekend getaway, robust enough for a week-long off-grid expedition, and intuitive enough that first-time van lifers could operate her systems with confidence.
I'm David Sodemann, co-founder of Boho Camper Vans. Along with my partner Brett Ellenson, I've spent the past seven years perfecting the art of camper van conversions, building hundreds of custom vans for clients around the world. Today, I'm excited to share something special with the readers of BCM: our latest rental van creation, "Whitney" – a van that incorporates many lessons learned from our Next-Gen Series development, serving as the perfect introduction to van life for first-time adventurers.
The Foundation: RAM ProMaster
Whitney is built on the RAM ProMaster 2500 platform with a 159" wheelbase – a configuration that balances interior space with maneuverability. After converting hundreds of vans, Brett and I have developed strong preferences for chassis selection, and the ProMaster continues to impress us with its reliability and practicality for renting. Whitney's RAM ProMaster platform provides the perfect balance of space and maneuverability.
This platform provides enough interior length for comfortable living while maintaining the ability to navigate tight city streets, mountain switchbacks, and crowded campgrounds. The wheelbase is long enough to accommodate a full-size bed without feeling cramped, yet manageable enough that nervous drivers can handle it confidently.

True Off-Grid Capability
Whitney's electrical system features a 400Ah lithium battery bank using Battle Born Batteries’ 12V GC2 LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Batteries paired with a 400W RICH Solar panel array. The sophisticated Victron Energy components keep batteries topped off during extended stays in remote locations while properly managing the batteries to ensure both performance and longevity.
Whitney's off-grid air conditioning capability sets her apart from many rental vans, as she’s equipped with a 12V Dometic RTX2000 AC system. Climate control operates without shore power or generators, meaning comfort in Arizona's scorching summer heat or Florida's humid coastal climate. The Eberspacher Airtronic heating system provides reliable warmth for shoulder season and winter adventures, whether chasing powder in Colorado or exploring desert landscapes in January.
For backup power or campground stays, Whitney includes shore power hookup capability with a Victron Multiplus-II Inverter/Charger (3000W). The system seamlessly switches between solar, battery, and shore power as needed, providing worry-free operation that makes van life accessible to everyone.

Maximizing Space and Comfort
Whitney's interior reflects years of experience in space optimization. The centerpiece is a full-sized 54" x 75" memory foam bed – no compromises on sleep quality. We've learned that quality rest is crucial for enjoying van life adventures.
The convertible sofa bed system makes Whitney remarkably versatile. Face-to-face seating transforms into additional sleeping space, accommodating up to four people when needed. The removable 2-person bench, featuring integrated seatbelts, adds flexibility, whether you need extra seating or want to maximize cargo space. The passenger seat swivels to expand the lounge area, creating social space that encourages conversation and connection.
Storage solutions are integrated throughout Whitney's interior, focusing on accessibility and organization rather than just quantity. The butcher block countertops and stainless-steel sink provide a premium feel while maintaining durability, materials we've tested in dozens of rental vans.

Culinary Capabilities
Whitney's kitchenette provides maximum capability in minimum space. The slide-out prep space doubles the available counter area when needed and disappears when not in use — a perfect space-efficient design that makes van life practical.
The Dometic 110L electric refrigerator/freezer provides ample food storage for extended trips. We selected this model based on years of field testing for its reliability, energy efficiency, and optimal sizing for the van environment. The microwave and portable propane stove combination gives renters flexibility in meal preparation.
Whitney comes fully equipped with a French press, cookware, tableware, a wine key, and hot pads. This reflects our understanding that many rental customers are trying van life for the first time, and we want to eliminate barriers to a great experience.

Water Systems and Outdoor Living
Whitney's 28-gallon freshwater tank with LED level indication provides an ample supply for extended off-grid stays. The heated outdoor shower system means staying clean and comfortable no matter where you park – there's something magical about showering under the stars after a day of hiking.
The gray water system is designed for easy disposal and environmental responsibility. We believe in leaving no trace, and Whitney's systems support that philosophy. Toilet options are available upon request for customers preferring indoor facilities.

The Complete Adventure Package
Whitney comes equipped with camping chairs, a folding table, a first aid kit, and roadside assistance — carefully selected items that enhance safety and comfort. The adventure journal encourages customers to document their experiences, creating lasting memories of their van life adventure.
Our "Secret Map" gives renters access to hidden gems and local favorites that have been discovered through years of exploration. This insider knowledge transforms a rental into an authentic adventure, complete with headlamp, selfie stick, and playing cards for those spontaneous moments that make trips memorable.
Testing Ground for Innovation
Whitney serves as a testing ground for new ideas that may eventually be incorporated into custom builds. Every rental provides real-world feedback on systems, layout, and features. The convertible furniture system has proven so popular with renters that we now incorporate similar designs into custom builds.
This feedback loop between our rental fleet and custom build operation keeps us innovative and responsive to what van lifers want and need.
A Gateway to Camping
For many people, Whitney represents their first taste of camping. We've watched customers return from week-long trips ready to make camping a permanent part of their lives. Some become custom-build clients, while others return as repeat rental customers.
Whitney serves as an ambassador for the RV lifestyle, showing people that this way of traveling isn't just for hardcore adventurers – it's accessible, comfortable, and incredibly rewarding for anyone with a sense of adventure.
Ready to Rent
As we continue growing our rental fleet and custom build operation, vans like Whitney represent the future of accessible van life. They prove you don't need to own a van to experience the freedom and adventure this lifestyle offers.
Whitney is available for rental through our website at boho.life/whitney. Whether you're a seasoned van lifer looking for a premium rental experience or someone considering van life for the first time, Whitney offers a taste of what's possible when comfort meets adventure.
