The Lone Star State Eagle 2021 Bus Rally

“The Stars at Night are Big and Bright - Deep in the Heart of Texas”. Nine buses parked in the spacious San Angelo State Park, October 6-9, 2021 for the Lone Star State Eagle Bus Rally, thanks to Marty and Elaine Golden, our gracious hosts. We enjoyed coffee, donuts, breakfast burritos, BBQ, a potluck, an opportunity to see bison and longhorn cattle feeding, bicycle rides, a fun rally schedule, and great weather!

The San Angelo State Park is in a beautiful area of Texas, close to Midland, TX with a lot of activities for all ages to enjoy.

The women enjoyed a get-together including lunch at a historic “brothel”, (Miss Hattie’s), followed by great shopping. We also made a Christmas craft thanks to Tory Stoner, our teacher.

The men had lunch together and visited Ron’s Upholstery Shop where 84-year-old Ron works on street rods and other old cars’ interiors. He lives in his Eagle bus behind the shop and does some amazing work during the day in his shop.

We carpooled to a huge Mexican restaurant, Henrys, where we enjoyed good food and friendly staff. There was a SNAFU, though...Gary Hatt accidentally paid for Bill Stoner’s margarita! Thanks, Gary!

A potluck and business meeting ended the rally. Mike Groves shared some meaningful thoughts about Wayne St. Onge who died Sept. 25, 2021. The group shared photos and memories of Wayne.

The evenings brought a cool breeze and we opened our bus windows for a great night’s sleep.

Thank you, Elaine and Marty, for the opportunity to see friends, have individual visits, admire new scenery, nurture relationships, and a special thanks for the food you provided!

On Thanksgiving of 2014, Gary bought a 1967 Model 08 Eagle and has since been living and traveling full time in that.
