The Pacific Bus Museum’s 2023 Open House

The Pacific Bus Museum’s Open House was held on Sunday, August 20, 2023, and hosted a near-record turnout of 300 people.

Among the many buses on display were three buses from Greyhound’s former Historic Bus Collection: The MCI MC-7 #1968; the ACF-Brill IC41 #1948 (both now privately owned); and the Pacific Bus Museum’s new acquisition, the GM PD-4151 Silverside #1947.

Also newly acquired by PBM is a unique conversion/upgrade of a 1955 Greyhound GM PD-4501 Scenicruiser - the former Red Bull hospitality bus that traveled for eight years.

The featured guest bus was country and western music legend Tammy Wynette’s private tour coach, a special-ordered 1986 MCI 102C-3, which was open for tours.

The flea market featured six vendors offering numerous bus items to the public, and 200 barbeque meals were served.  A running model railroad display was a hit with the many children who attended.

The bus makes guest appearances in the Los Gatos Christmas Parade each year, transporting retired teachers from the high school. It is also one of the buses that as a child Tom looked at through the entry window.Tom recently helped with a friend’s donation to PBM of a 1966 Crown Highway Post Office, converted to an RV by his father and used for over 40 years by two generations of their family. In his spare time from working in his family business, Tom likes to do some “bus scouting” around California and beyond, and he has recently done research at the Motor Bus Society’s Archives, the Flxible Archives, and the Mack Museum Archives. Please visit PBM’s website at www.pacbus.org, and also become a friend on our Facebook page.
