closing bay doors
« on: November 20, 2022, 03:37:30 PM »
When you use one hand to hold on to the locking mechanism, and the other hand on the bottom of the door to slow the speed at which it closes, make sure all five of those fingers are out before it reaches bottom...

I screamed but couldn't hear myself. But the big dog ran out the dog door and the little one hid under the bus. I you're gonna be stupid, you gotta be tough.

I quit working on the door and put something cold in my hand.
I could hold my hand over my head (to reduce the throbbing) with a cold beer in it! Sipping it from time to time for medicinal purposes.

Why is it when you smash a finger, you feel it all the way up to your armpit?

To stop the throbbing tomorrow, take a straight pin, heat it with a lighter till tip red and touch point to purple on nail. It'll  burn through in less than a second and you'll  see a puddle of blood and pull pin away. The throbbing will immediately cease. I used to use a tiny drill bit, rotating by hand, but took longer and hurt more.

Thanks for the input Chessie.
I've seen that done and it immediately brought relief to the affected finger. I've had worse, but remember it throbs that first night. Now ready for the hot needle just yet. Tylenol and iced it a bunch today. I may be up at midnight heating up a pin....
I always try to tell myself that things like this keep me from doing the same thing again. I'll do it again, but not with a bus bay door.

Look at the bright side - at least your finger is still on your hand and not inside that compartment.  :^

Don't be proud,, install an additional handle at the bottom of each door to keep from having to wrap your hand around the bottom of it..>>>Dan

Ted, you got off easy, you could have broken your finger. I guess the Prevost's don't have a recessed hand hold on the door like they do on Eagles. One hand on that, and the other on the lock usually prevents accidents. My main problem is forgetting where the bottom edge is when it is open. I have scars on my head.

Ouch. That'll be there for awhile. The hot pin is probably a good idea if a little scary. I have used a very small drill bit myself. Don't want to go too deep...

Every time I forget to do the safety pins on one of the MCI's bay doors I tell myself just how stupid I'm being. Turns out I'm stupid about half the time, who knew?

The release of the blood immediately cools the pin and just stop at that. I used to use the drill bit but it hurt more applying a tiny pressure and especially when getting close to penetrating.

Also applying red pepper directly to a gash received from head hitting a bay door or any other cut will stop the bleeding. Those on blood thinner should always carry a small tin with them. Also can be mixed with some water to moisten a towel and directly applied.

Put tape over it so it doesn't get infected.
