What company, if any, are you using for tow insurance for your bus conversion and why?
-
AAA and Good Sam, looking for better...
-
Couch.net because AAA doesn't really deal with RV's our size. I.E. They have nobody under contract or keep references. Basically you need to do it yourself and then beg for reimbursement.
Spend a couple hours on the phone verifying this with them, luckily I didn't need a tow.
When I asked them to refund my insurance for this they refused as I technically had coverage.

Tell me if I am wrong but I think Gary is asking about insurance for his towed not towing or pickup for his Bus?
We have Safeco Insurance for the Jeep, and Bus. Just liability and medical. 57.00 a month. :)
We also carry Coach.net for retrieval of all vehicles.

Have had good sam for years. Have had to use it a hand full of times, never any issues. I have heard horror stories from other people however.

I am asking about insurance for having the bus towed if it breaks down. Not that my bus will break down, but for other people. 8)

Do they cover all your vehicles without extra cost? If it does cost how much per vehicle? My bus is still under construction and sitting mostly but I'd go ahead and get it now if they'll bring my other rolling scrap heaps home.

The 35 mile tow limit with Good Sams now is a killer

Yes they do cover all your vehicles but only to the nearest repair facility but that could be 250 miles away sometimes..

Is that just on new policies or does that include existing policy renewals as well? If thats across the board then I think it's time to change roadside companies.
-
Last time I priced Coach Net their premium level which covers all your vehicles had doubled in price to well over 200 bucks, I almost fainted.
-
Just AAA+RV for me at the moment, since I haven't been going far from home yet. Probably picking up Coach Net once I move beyond day-tripping.

?what is wrong with the towing part of the insurance co one has on the bus,I read my policy from State Farm it looks good and only cost me $38.00 extra a year
-
The towing coverage with my auto insurance excludes motorhomes. Don't at least some auto insurance towing coverages require you to find and pay for your own tow and they reimburse later?

The reference policy above is a RV policy, people I know with Progressive on their buses use theirs with no upfront money
-
My bus is covered as part of my auto insurance. I believe the company has a general policy of no towing coverage for RVs.

Ahh, I didn't think about that. if I'm 20 miles from home but 5 miles from Sleazy Joe's Repair I'm SOL. I guess I'll stick with whatever State Farm includes on my policy for now. Worst case a friend and a strap are easy enough to scrounge up...
-
Our bus was purchased from a payoff of a totaled class C S&S by Foremost Insurance Company & they turned around & insured the bus. There is a roadside assistance rider on the policy but since 1979 have never used it for long distance tow - just being towed out of a snow bank to get back on the hwy.

Gary Hatt, coach net should advertise on bus conversions and give a discount, lvmci...

I agree. I have thought about that in the past. I want to wait until we get a few more replies so we have a good sample of opinions first.

In that case you might be able to convince the roadside assistance company to tow it the extra fifteen miles. The other alternative would be to pay the towing company for the extra 15 miles.
I think for a lot of us we are not likely to be close to home when we have a problem with our bus.
-
I should be noted that Coach.net is required to tow you to the nearest qualified shop not merely the nearest mechanic. So while waiting for the tow to show up one might want to try to research mechanics in the area capable of working on whatever bus you have. It is possible that the tow driver will know one but maybe not.
If they tow you to someone that can't work on it you would be wanting them to tow you somewhere else, so it is quite possible that they would be happy to get you towed home and be done with it.
-
That is true because I needed the wife s car to be tow to our ranch which was 30 miles more than the dealer that they wanted to tow it to. I wanted to work on it and not pay dealer prices. So they said no problem that it would cost 17.00 extra on the difference. So they towed it to our place and never sent me the billl for $17.00. :^

When I broke a cam in my 8v92 I refused the nearest party that said they could do the repairs Coachnet had no problems trailing the bus 70 miles back to El Paso .Things have changed since Coachnet has been sold and moved from Lake Havasu to Dallas. The owner was a good friend and still has a fleet of wreckers in 4 different areas here to serve the snowbirds and local RV owners
