There are lots of us that have had problems trying to get out pictures sized to work on the net. This is a free program that takes all the work out of resizing pictures.
After you have loaded the file on your computer, go to the file with your picture or pictures that you want to resize. Do a right click on the file name or the picture. A box will open that ask lots of questions. Left click on the one that says resize picture. The first box will have standard sizes; click on the advance tab, the second page will have a custom size that you can change to what ever you want. After you have picked what size you would like to have one more click and it is all done for you.
If you want to do more than one picture at a time, go to the file hold down control on the key board, click on each file name that you want to resize. Then hold the mouse over the files and do a right click, the box will come up to resize your pictures. Pick the size you want click ok and it is done.
Most of you don’t need my instructions, but I hope it will help the ones that do need it.

OK folks. My worst fears confirmed.
This program is not compatible with Vista :-[ :'(
Anyone find a solution? Another similar program that works with Vista?
Yes, I know about MS Office Picture Manager and I am not impressed.

Jim, what does work with Vista some times I want to throw the Toshiba away and go back to the old HP very frustrating for me using Vista good luck

After I posted the above question about Vista >:(, I did a search and found this:

First of all, if you have Vista :-\, you will quickly find, as luvrbus points out, that a huge number of software programs do not work. This includes legal versions of pre 2007 MS software. This seems to be a very planned highway robbery by the MS folks.
You should become very familiar with "open source" software. This is free software that comes pretty close to duplicating most of the major software programs. This is not pirated software. It is a part of a huge effort to make free software available to the public. For details go to: http://www.opensource.org/about
For example:
1) An almost full office suite at: http://www.openoffice.org/
2) A full power desktop publishing program: http://www.scribus.net/
3) An Adobe level photo program: http://www.gimp.org/
The program I mentioned above is a part of that organization.
I downloaded it and played with it for a bit and it seems to be a great program. It is a very simple program that apparently does the same thing as the Powertoy image program. You select one or more pictures then have them resized to one of three sizes. You will have to play with the sizes, but the large size appears to be small enough to be acceptable to most boards. I took a raw 2.5 meg photo and used the "large" resize ("fits a 1024 z 768 screen") and it reduced it to a file just over 100 kb. In truth, the medium size would be better for most applications and the small would be typically used for web pages.
Note that this program will not let you adjust the photo or crop the photo. If you need that, you will need to pre-process the photo.
After downloading it, I ran Spybot just to make sure everything was OK. No problems.
I have been looking for just such a program and I am happy as a clam ;D

if you own vista business rather than home, it has "downgrade" rights that allow you to find an old copy of XP Pro and load it. if the registration of XP doesn't work or says can register, just call the number listed, forget the computer voice and press 0 for the support agent, and explain in nice terms that you have, and hate Vista and you need to register XP. they'll give you a number to enter in, and you're all set back on the good stuff until the new stuff comes out in another year or so.
for those that love changes, IE 8.0 beta is out. :D :D
now back to resizing pictures, the preceeding has been a non-paid commercial.

I was experimenting with http://sourceforge.net/projects/phototoysclone I have Vista. As I was doing a test, when I right click on a photo I get a list. One of the options is "resize" has this been there all along or did the sourceforge download install it??? Jim

Just to be sure we are talking about the same thing, you can use something like windows explorer, find a photo and then right click on it (without opening it) and you see a resize option.
I had not seen that option until you mentioned it. It is the same screen you see on the Image Resizer program from Sourceforge. So, I guess it installed itself as an option on many menus.
On one hand, that makes it quite convenient, but on the other hand, that kind of "invasion" kind of scares me ;)

A couple of weeks ago, when I was back in MSP, MN for my son's wedding, I wandered into the Best Buy in the Mall of America. Low & behold, sitting on the bottom shelf in the software department, were brand new copies of XP Pro. Thought seriously about picking up several, just to stash away for the next computer replacement, but realized luggage space was at a premium. Now I'm going to meander into my local BB and see if they've got some, in which case I will buy a couple of copies. I don't want to have anything to do with Vista. . . those Mac ads, especially the new one with the Vista guy counting the cash, seem to be dead on!
No "resize" when you right click a photo using XP Pro, so it must be a Vista thing. Which makes the SourceForge utility intriguing. . . Oh, and I'll skip IE 8.0 and stick to FireFox. . .
A fellow busnut, who used to post frequently but now just lurks, got so frustrated with Vista that he completely wiped out the Microslop OS and installed Linux on his PC. Said it took a little time, but now works flawlessly, using all open source software. Says he'll never go back to MS products. Not for the faint of heart, however, as I understand it.

Hi JIm , I sounds like we are talking about the same thing! I hope to get to someone else's vista and see if it is there without downloading anything.
I have been useing Vista since last year with virtually no problems and am happy with it. I run no fancy software, I am not doing cad/cam or exotic photos programs, that seems to be where the problems lay. If I had lots of expensive software hanging around I would be unhappy also.
On occasion I see new computers being sold at WalMart with XP already installed.

Mac lets you re-size pictures. Get a Mac. After a little getting used to, you will be real happy. It works, it is graceful, it makes sense, tech support is excellent. As far as the price goes, I know it seems that PC's are cheaper, but they are not when you compare features, speed, and all the maintenance software that the PC requires (anti-virus, pest scanners, registry scanners). We switched about a year and a half ago and would not consider going back.

Hi re the Mac comment. I am working on one right now and I have as yet been unable to resize using Iphoto care to steer me right?

One would think from my praise of the Mac that I may be an expert on it. I am not. I only use the features that I need. So I have not tried to adjust the size in Iphoto. Instead, if you click on the file, it will open the picture in Preview. There is an "Adjust Size" option in the "Tools" menu.

thank you, I'm a longtime pc guy forced into occasional Mac use. Finally learnt how to right click on the mac, now I feel better.
