Title: first camping trip overnight today!
Post by: bevans6 on July 22, 2009, 05:29:02 AM
Well, after a fair bit of rectification work (new wiring, a lot of new plumbing, new stove, installed the water heater correctly, new LPG plumbing, new rooftop AC) and about 3 hours of driving around practicing, we are off to a nearby provincial park (Turkey Point, between Port Dover and Simcoe Ontario) for an overnight today.  Weather is not great, light rain/cloudy/some summy breaks, thunderstorms tonight, but my theory is if we are going onlong trips, almost full-timing for a month or two, you don't get to choose your bright sunny days only!

This should be interesting, I'll let you know how it goes...

You're right!  A bad weather trip is the perfect test of a bus!  Have fun!

We went, we camped, we had fun, we got rained on a LOT and we came home.  Exactly as planned!  The campsite was heavily wooded, little trails to get in and out, 35' bus was big enough thank you very much.  The site was a pull-though - for a 25' unit maybe - I had to back and  fill twice to get it, only once backing out - no possible way to pull through forward without a chain saw, which is remarkably frowned upon in an Ontario Provincial Park...

Only bus issues - curb side windshield wiper would stall when i was trying to run it slow in light rain, had to stop and push at it to get it going again.  And CLUTCH...  OMG.  I am 6'2", 235 lbs and I cannot keep the clutch engaged at a stop sign, and feathering it when backing slowly - torture!  It is just too hard to push.  I am going to start a clutch assist thread to discuss.  Zero "conversion" issues and it  appears I remember how to camp - couple of bourbon and branches, little bit BBQ New York steak, heirloom tomato and vidalia onion salad with balsamic and fresh buffalo mozzarella...  I remember how to camp!

Cheers, Brian

Congrats Brian!!! You'll always remember that first one! Well my first was only a year ago so I haven't forgotten it yet. I sat under the awning watching it rain for 2 days, on occasion bailed the water off the boat cover, and found the bottom of my beer cooler. I have to admit.... a pretty good weekend indeed!! :D Later
