6-v92 oil filter collapsed internal..why? could it force oil by blower or turbo seal into air box? not mine...but a friends...help me understand..quart of oil out air box drains in 30 minutes..would it not have to enter from blower or turbo? Bob

The engineers who designed your engine did their best to build componants totally compatible with that engine. Just going to the parts store and buying an oil filter that fits isn't necessarily the replacement they had in mind. Some filters have a pressure relief valve built into the filter to protect the 'innards' from damage.
Always try to buy a direct replacement filter recommended but the engine builder. When in doubt ask another Busnut. That's why we're here.
Hope you didn't seriously damage your engine.

The filter for a Detroit 2 stroke should be a NAPA 1970 or WIX 59170 or equivalent in any other brand! (NAPA filters are made by WIX and I have been using them for yrs & yrs!

BTW I just had one of the '05's puking oil out from the top of the filter. Filter was on tight and when removed NO DAMAGE found to the filter or gasket!
Changed to oil and filter and leak stopped! GO FIGURE. ;)

Thanks for post guys, I have been at diesel shop all day working with mechanics on my bus to make sure its really a bad engine before I send it off for a rebuild. As most of you know I thought the motor locked up a few days ago but instead it apparantly shut down on low oil. We pulled the pan today and the motor was as clean as any motor I have ever seen. So I told mechanic If we had a failure their has to be metal somewere. I asked him to remove the oil filter and cut it open. As soon as he removed the filter. Bingo their it was the internal of the oil filter was collapsed. The 6v92 does have a by pass which was passing the oil through and they were working properly. So we put the pan back on filled motor with oil and seh started right up perfectly and has upto 50lbs oil pressure. But it is still blowing tons of oil out the drippers. It could only be three things. Blower is blowing by. Bad piston "I didnt see any scored cylinder" or the air compressor for the bus is blowing air into crancase. We will know more tommorow but its still looking like a rebuild.

FYI, I pulled the engine intake side of the turb and it showed no signs of oil going into motor. I also believe that if the buses air compressor was leaking back through it would councel out the oil pressure I seen today. Must be a bad oil ring or piston, I just couldnt find any metal anywere.

I know you already have mechanics working on it so I'm reluctant to make suggestions but I would pull all the airbox drain covers and start her up and using a good shop light you'll know right away which cylinder is causing that if its a piston ring that cracked. I would air up the bus first so you don't have to wait for it to build air pressure or you could shut it off manually just be careful ( shirtsleeves, long hair get caught in cooling system belt that would suck bigtime)

Something wrong with this picture,the 92 series has a bypass on the filter,the oil cooler and a valve inside the oil pan to dump the oil for high pressure they will pump oil into the air box when a piston pin seal comes loose or bad valve guide seals either way Wax/um antifreeze in the blower drains come from the head area or sleeve o-rings that engine will need some work and they will spin a main bearing and never show metal in the pan I would have pulled the caps myself but that is just me
