Title: LED Interior Lighting
Post by: jok on May 02, 2012, 11:09:36 AM
Hi all,

I have been thinking about replacing the 20 watt bulbs in my interior Puck Lights for a while. I found a local source for LED bulbs for $5.00 each. They put out the same amount of light and are a lot cooler. Having a black bus it is important to reduce anything that creates heat, especially in the summer. My batteries like the lower voltage too.

I have and use both 12Vdc and 110Vac LED bulbs in my coach.

They make a tremendous difference on heat generated internally.

Just add up all the wattage's you have inside.  Can be like running a small space heater on incandescent or halogen bulbs.

I have been buying from http://www.sailorsams.com/g4-side-pin-led-bulbs-12v (http://www.sailorsams.com/g4-side-pin-led-bulbs-12v)
They have LEDs with a 10 to 30 volt range.

I ordered 3 sets of 10 from the seller I referenced above on May 2. I received them priority mail today, May 5.

Bob had given me one with 12 lights in the warm light style. My wife thought she would like the bright light better. These are bright light with 24 led spots. Personally I like the warm light better after seeing these but I will let her decide that when she sees them. It will probably take a long time to wear out 30 of these though. Lol

Has anybody tried the LED strip lights sold on Ebay?  I bought a roll of the LED strip lights, ran out of time to install, and right now they are lost.

Most of the sellers are out of Hong Kong or China.  There are a few USA based sellers, but you'll pay quite a bit more.  I don't recall which seller I bought from, but it was one of the overseas ones.

Anyone have a source or preferred style of recessed fixture in which to mount these?  Looking for both spot and diffuser lenses.

Michael;any base with g-4 or m 16  will except the led. or you can solder direct to the led studs and make your own fixtures or modify some existing ones.

Bob, what is the seller's ebay name?  I need a couple rolls and don't want to deal with shipping from China.  Thanks!!

Cheers, John

I did a search on Ebay and found 200+ listings for "led strip lights USA".  There are 30,000+ listings if the USA portion is dropped.

I'm following this with interest because I'm trying to find a fixture I can hang inside an existing lampshade, running the powercord to the back of an end table, then down into a drawer to a rechargable battery. That way, I can remove the battery occassionally for recharging and have a lamp where there is no receptacle.

Dennis you can buy the G-4 receptacle for about $3 to fit the individual led Like DKO bought (12 Volt) can use M-16 receptacle also just need to bend prongs a little.     Local lamp Shop should have receptacle.  Bob

i bought 2 just to see what they were, cost around 9 bucks each shipped...

now my wife says i have a disco bus... ;D

Bob, how did you cover the LED strip lights so they don't look like you attached a long narrow circuit board to your ceiling?

I just bought a nice looking bronzed fixture at HD on sale for $13, that had a new style bulb called a GU10 base with a MR16 body, got a LED 12V from phillips, expensive at $30 but 60,000 hrs and 3 watts, no heat, to replace the halogen, saves wattage, saves heat, and now hanging down, bulb and lampshade are secure with this 1/4 turn twist lock bulb, lvmci...
