Title: Is the 96xx not an official model?
Post by: brettpearson67 on April 15, 2019, 04:58:35 PM
So I am looking for parts and info etc on my new 96A3 in various different places, and I see listings of MCI models and they go straight from the MC9 to the 102xx. No mention of the 96.

What gives?

Thanks

I looked in my manual library and it shows a 96 B3 so i imagine in true MCI fashion there was a 96 A3 and a 96 B3 etc...

Same bus as the 102A3  only 96 inches wide Greyhound ran a lot of those easy to spot the difference on the highway since the 96A3 the taillights butt up to the engine door e

Call Complete Coach Works in Riverside, CA.  Ask for Mondo.  They will have many of the parts you need as they scrap a lot of MCI buses.  http://completecoach.com/

Not sure on the actual production numbers, but there were fewer 96's built vs the 102's.

That 6 inches was huge for passenger seat width.

The coach infrastructure was all 96 inch wide... washracks and doorways in particular, so MCI offered both widths for a little while for those fleets that wanted the old width.

Greyhound was so firmly stuck in their ways that MCI built them the MC12 instead of continuing to confuse the new style with 2 widths, and the arrival of 45'rs, another change Greyhound withstood for a long time.

Lots of interchangeable parts, on purpose, between 96A and 102A.

Happy coaching!

Thanks for the replies. I’m wondering if the trailer hitch that rvparts sells for the 102 would bolt on.

Hi Brett, I call MCI Kentucky tech support, they are great with help, one person in particular, is knowledgeable about older Series MCIs. Don Foley in old parts, is very knowledgeable and a nice guy, willing to answer your questions. As opposed to a parts guy in MCI Los Alamitos, CA who told me my MCI TMC 102C3 couldn't be, because TMCs only existed in 5s and 7s! lvmci...
