My wife has been bugging me on what I want for Christmas (I learned my lesson a few years ago when she asked and I foolishly said"oh nothing" and that's what I got :) :)).
So I was thinking of a Milwaukee impact(battery). Is the 1/2" one (600ft/lbs busting torque) adequate or should I go bigger. I already have a 60:1 wrench for loosening wheel studs.Your thoughts?
Thanks

The 600 lbft model is perfect for working around the shop as any bigger is going to wear you out very quickly, to heavy, but the smaller impact is not going to take off bus lug nuts. I’ve taken off pickup lug nuts with them and their marginal for that.

I hear you, don't say nothing. Of course I did mention what would be the prefect laptop for her (now ex) a number of years ago and that was the next laptop I received... Great screen but hey over powered for real work which is what I do LOL!!!

I purchased this one.

I researched all the reviews before buying, both the Milwaukee and the Dewalt had similar reviews, in the end I choose the Dewalt because it cost less money.
I have been very happy with it, takes the lugnuts off the bus without issue.
I almost went with the ¾ inch drive, ended up going with the ½ inch drive because it would be over all more useful to me, the Torque specs are same.
I have yet to find a bolt or nut that it will not take off or break off.
In the yard where I work on the bus there are a number of other mechanics working on various things and two of them have purchased this after using mine a couple of times, it’s great for removing rusted bolts off boat trailers.
Not having previously owned any Dewalt cordless tools, I bought the kit that included the charger and Battery, if you already have Dewalt charger and batteries the stand alone impact driver can be purchased relatively inexpensively.

I picked up the Dewalt 1/2" drive (20 volt cordless). I removed all the bus seats with it, completely dismantled all the upper storage racks down to the point of having a clean pile of materials ready for recycling, totally dismantled the wheelchair lift mechanism (probably 250 bolts), helped my son change out the transmission in his '02 Ram, and all that on one charge. I plugged it in last weekend just so I could top it off, but it was still ready to go. As a matter of fact, I just picked up the 2 drill brushless set with both batteries being the extended run 20 volt. Now I have 3 batteries, 2 chargers, all interchangeable.

My son came over yesterday and said I got something you might be able to use if you want it. He hands me a Milwaukee Impact 1/2". I said hell yes. He says then oh I have two batteries for it to.
I love that kid, LOL
Of course I just gave him all the tools I had that were not on the bus already plus the truck tool box they were in all of our dishware, sheets, towels etc. Because we have all that on the bus already. :)
