Title: 4060 D and R flash and won't go into gear
Post by: sledhead on January 18, 2021, 05:36:44 AM
It was a sad day as I had to push the coach back into the garage with my tractor :'(
I moved it out to get a mini ex in so I could work on it and I drove the coach back in and was re positioned the coach when the shifter would not put the 4060 in to gear . it just flashed when I tried R or D so rather then try to find out what happened I used the tractor to push it in so I could close the roll up door as it is cold out .
went on the computer and as well looked up the electrical schematics to see where the slide out wiring was to try to fix the problem . in the end I put out the slide out and then put it back in and that fixed the transmission problem for now .
There is 1 wire that goes from the HWH controller to the transmission ecu and I would like to put a dead mans switch on it to see if this will allow the transmission to work or it might just be a ground signal ? but not sure and do not want to mess anything up

any ideas ?

I find that because of not using the coach as much as we would like to because of covid things like this are happening more and more

covid covid covid

thanks dave

Good strategy, a bypass switch for the owner to choose, not the (whizzbang) computer and the sensors.

Yup, a sitting coach gets itself into so much trouble...

Let us know your strategy!

Happy coaching!

after some on line research I found that the slide out and air leveling system is HWH ap18370 ( Mitchell coach ) not that it told me much .

Looking at HWH site I found on the Foretravel part of the site I found the neutral hold wiring and it is a ground to the ecm to allow the transmission to go into gear

With the MCI the slide was a home made system that I designed and built all the parts and I made sure that there was no computerized crap on it so nothing like this would happen .

You know when I put the coach in drive or in reverse all you had to do was look in the mirror and "duh" if you could see nothing but slide I would put the slide in then go !

This is the down side of a computerized coach and 21 years of use and not using it enough

Newells with HWH slides have that switch on the control box to override the transmission lock.

I can look at the wiring numbers tomorrow if that will help you.

HWH slides will clear by discounting the batteries and go back to default,I have Active Air and HWH slides mine won't do that I get a do not shift light only,if the yellow light is blinking on the HWH panel they will not operate.I forget sometimes and try to retract mine with steep incline light on the Active Air I can push the travel mode on the Active Air when it levels out all is good.Mine is a little different my slides will not work unless the parking brake is on and  level
The 4060 is a PTO transmission mostly used for the fan drive if they detect a problem with the PTO drive they will flash and and will not shift also

  "ALL IS GOOD "
thanks for the comments and ideas . I found the switch to turn off the D and R flashing problem in the HWH control box .  ::)
But in doing so I had to move a ton of wires that were in the way and the transmission worked as it should . So then I got the dreaded slide and the air leveling not working but all had power ? . After a ton of testing I found that when I moved the wires out of the way so I could see the switch the "park brake " wire in the connecter had to be repaired as to get a real contact . After I got everything to work wright I labeled all the steps to find the problems inside the control box and where they are located for the next guy .
The coach is amazing but the guys that built it covered up all the wiring and all the adjustment locations on a lot of critical systems .
I have spent the last 4 years removing trim as to make removable covers so things can be located and adjusted or checked . A lot of the problem areas are in the slide out , I used the oscillating saw and cut out a lot of finished panels that could not be removed .
some before and after shots
before   no way to get at wiring or slide top locks and other things

after cut out 4" of the slide top and added REMOVABLE cherry trim

other side wall to ceiling trim is now removable

many many more locations have been redone

Just another example of too much electronic "stuff" to go wrong.

.

I doubt I will be Rving after a couple more years, the 1 blind was a hardware problem caused by me.I like my RV so far has not used not 1 qt of engine oil in 10,000 miles gets on the average of 7.8 mpg and never runs over 180* F ,but I did run over a piece of steel in the highway yesterday that cost me a new tire  :-X

same problem with cars and trucks
I have a 6 year old suv that I am going to trade in because of all the censers  have started to screw up and I have replaced some in the past but it is happening more and more . it's all junk today , maybe I should feel lucky as in todays would that must be a long time with the same suv that only has 65 klm on it ( about 41,00 miles )
axel speed censer ring 2 x $ 22 + install but the dealership will only install all new rear drive shafts with the censers all ready on them for a cost of $ 2200 each axel x2 + labour ???

it is a sad sad world we live in

keep the old coach's going as anything newish with computers on it will be hard to keep on the road with out a ton of $$ for electronic repairs
