Title: MCI 102A3 6V92TA mounting
Post by: Wayne Lemmon on September 14, 2021, 10:54:31 AM
I have a takeout from an older Neoplan bus-RV. the engine was just rebuilt when it was badly vandalized. I want to put it in my MC 102A3, however then front mounting is different and the flywheel housings are different. The MCI has what looks like a reinforced housing and the Neoplan has a standard housing. Can they be swapped with out difficulty?

My bigger concern is the front mounting. The Neoplan has the mounting around the front crankcase, oil pump. The MCI has a mounting point above the crank shaft and below the cam shafts. Do these to have different oil pumps? I see typical as built into the front cover, and then there is "pump mounted on main bearing caps". How can I tell without dropping the oil pan which each engine has?

Or would it be more advisable to get a mounting rail that would work with the front mounting around the crank shaft?

All that can be transferred over you are talking about a MCI trunnion mount I think, just weld a cross member and use the oil pump motor mounts works fine or transfer the trunnion mount, both engines will have the same oil pump on the front of the block outside the oil pan.Photos of the bell housing arrangement would help, MCI is strange with the 70 degree tilted air compressor and you may need to change back plate and relocate the auxiliary drives ,some MCI have the rear mount on the transmission some have the mount on the bell  housing with no transmission mount, this what I do when I install a 8v92 in a older MCI because the trunnion mount won't clear the harmonic balance on the 8v92 ,I need to cut the rest of the trunnion out since he decided he wasn't keeping the factory air
