Vancouver always has high gas prices because of a municipal transit tax. It is around 1.40 in Calgary. And yes, diesel has been cheaper than gas for several months now by about 20 cents.

It is my belief that for quite a few years now diesel fuel prices have been artificially inflated over gasoline prices well beyond what would have been justified on the basis of production, supply and demand. I have been waiting to see diesel fall more into line with former ratios, perhaps that is now happening in Canada.

The difference seems to be that while higher gas prices cause consumers to immediately cut back on traveling and purchases, creating a glut on the market and requiring immediate corrections in order to keep the product flowing, diesel is tied more tightly to the delivery of necessary goods and therefore has much less leverage against the suppliers.

It's more marketing thinking you are getting a better price, diesel is more refined now than gasoline, you can get twice the amount of gasoline than diesel from a barrel of oil, they offset that with Bio like Soybeans, then we have politics with our gas and diesel, they have sold off 300 million barrels of oil from our SPR trying to get prices down before election time.Gasoline and Diesel has always been subsidies in the USA to keep the cost low and they trying to cut that part out, when they do we will paying just like the rest of the world
