Krash turned back on the Side Ads that we hope are non-intrusive, and they hopefully will not bother anyone. This will help bring in some much needed revenue to allow us to keep the Forum running after January, 2024.
I noticed a pop-up on my screen, which I hate, and mentioned it to Krash and he may be able to isolate the problem, but I may have to log into another account to see what is causing it.
Let us know if the side ads are acceptable to you, and also let us know if you are seeing the annoying pop-up ads so we can figure out how to eliminate them.
Without some ad income to cover the cost to maintain the Forum, and with so few Forum members now subscribing to BCM, we will have to shut down the Forum in January without this income.
As I mentioned earlier, I don't sell buses as a main business to bring in other income, so I need to have the Forum pay for itself and Google Ads are a means of doing that.
Thank you for understanding.
Gary

Side ads are no bother at all to me. I appreciate the BCM forum. I did have a full-screen pop-up ad when logging in just now in Safari on a Mac. It was easy to close and it didn't even register with me who the advertiser was. I guess they're pretty easy to ignore. ;D
-
I turned off my blocker for you and I click on all the ads so you get revenue. Your welcome !!!!LOL :^

Just got a full page pop up on my desk top showing a lady using a vacuum cleaner. Jack

Gary,I'm sorry to hear of the economic difficulties keeping BCM running as a viable business. Ad revenue or subscriptions or charity are the primary methods to feed the beast these days. Sadly, independent social and special interest websites are all but extinct as the mega tech sites like FB, IG, X, etc. have mastered how to pull you into their walled gardens, force you to give all your info, then pound you with ads, making them billions.
If you must shutdown, then admit defeat and join the dark side as BCM joins the other groups on FB and elsewhere.

BCM has been on F/B for while, Gary will get a second before he shutdowns BCM,Ian's BNO on F/B gets a lot more traffic than his BNO forum

The popups are obviously coming from the google ads, they apparently stopped while the ads were disabled. I've asked Gary to disable auto ads in his adsense account, I don't have access. If there are any other problems with the ads post them here.

I bought some stuff from the ad for Termu. I bought 40 wash and work towels and a hat for my neighbor Bob that said
"I know everything I'm Bob"
Hope that helps..... :^

You better buy it Jack or they will start sending you subliminal messages that will cause you to have back pain over time. ;D

They don't make it easy to disable pop-up ads. When Krash enabled the side ads again, as he said they came back. Pop-up ads come on by default. I hate them as much as anyone. I sent Krash some instuctions to hopefully disable them, so they do not come up anymore. If anyone is interested. Here is the simple code to turn them off.
<script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-1782679905632764"

Ok, I think I found the problem. These annoying pop-up ads for Ukrainian Women Mechanics should stop popping up and ruining your day going forward.
Let me know if this helps.
-
Nothing wrong with advertising in general. As long as they don't block the content they're fine. The one's that come on YOUTUBE are fine in that you can skip them once they fulfilled their intended obligations.

She may need some help with that. ;D

Is that what you call "Hood Art"?

If the change Gary has made in Adsense settings work, there should be no more popup ads. There are three Google ads in right sidebar, which are displayed at bottom on phones, and the BCM ads at top of forum, which are not Google ads. Let us know if you see anything else.
-
Dr Hoes electric back pain thingamjig is still front and center on my desk top. Jack

Can you post a screenshot?
Maybe you should try a different browser. The only ads I see with Firefox are the BCM ads above the forum. FF with Ghostery blocks anything containing trackers, so all Google ads (and pretty much all other ads on all websites) are blocked. I don't use an ad blocker, just have all FF privacy and security settings maxed.
-
Here you go Krash:(http://)
-
Is that full screen? Don't see any of the forum.
-
Yup, full screen completely blocking BCM from view. You can see the BCM forum/index at the top of the screen shot when you look closely. Jack
-
This is what I get using Safari on a Mac. The ad is pretty small, but the BCM page is blurred in the background. I don't mind it at all, so this is just for your troubleshooting ventures.
-
I turned off the Auto Ads (again). We will see if it takes this time. Maybe the 3rd time is a charm.
Let me know if you are still seeing the annoying pop-up ads or not.
Gary

I've edited the code in portal blocks for Google ads. What, if anything, is anyone seeing?
-
I don't see any.
-
I've installed Pale Moon browser and am able to view sidebar ads. The change I made earlier killed the ads, so I've reverted to what we had been using. I see three ads in right sidebar, which is how it's supposed to be. The BCM ads above the forum are displayed correctly. Still not seeing any popups.
-
No full-page ad for me when I logged in today, using the same setup that yielded the ad with the forum blurred in the background yesterday. I don't envy you guys for trudging through all this tech, but I'm sure glad the forum is here! :^
-
Ditto that! Jack
-
Yeah it's nice like it used to be. We always dealt with the ads but now W/O it is a more pleasing experience. Thanks. :^
-
It should be like a cell phone type "stop" to stop a ad ,you pay for the device and service and Google takes over ,MS is just as bad
-
Most browsers block popups by default, it's a setting. But if you're using Chrome or an Android device, Google can easily get around that. You should now be seeing three ads in right sidebar (unless you're using an ad blocker) and no popups.
-
That's what I see. Thanks, Jack
-
I noticed drop down ads covering the top of the page on my mobile device are back. Has anyone experienced that lately?
-
<sigh> Gary has been seeing ads at bottom of forum, there should only be three in right sidebar, and they're stacked vertically at bottom of forum in phone view. It appears that Google is pushing unwanted ads onto the forum again. We're trying to correct this in Adsense account, but no luck so far. I don't see the ads in my browser, so makes it difficult to determine how to block them.
-
I'm dealing with it just thought I'd mention it. Thanks for the explanation, It'll take more than that to keep me from here. :^
-
I tweaked the settings again this morning so hopefully the pop-up ads have disappeared for good.
Gary

Back to normal here, thank you!

Ditto :)
