Title: RTS first generation
Post by: CrabbyMilton on March 01, 2024, 05:52:29 AM
I recently bought an original generation RTS brochure circa late 1970's to early 1980's. I always got a big kick out of these buses and always and still do collect brochures. The RTS created quite a stir for me when MCTS bought 150 of them in 1980. The other kids in my High School thought I was goofy because of this but I digress. Looking thru this brochure, it clearly shows how far engine technology has advanced in the last 44 years. The 8V-71 was only rated at 225HP. It appears that there were slightly more powerful versions of the 8V-71 but 225HP was the listed standard rating. They also offered the 6v-71 at only 183HP so it was probably fine in very slow stop and go but forger it if you want to go more than 40mph.
A couple years later the 6V-92 replaced the 8V-71 and offered slightly more HP but these new engines have much more power and run much slower.
