I was looking back through some older pictures and found this.
When I first discovered this, I had to stare at it for a while before I realized how bad it actually was!
I have this Forum to thank for steering me to the Axle Doctors.
Anyone else have good pictures of hidden bad things that you found, that had been done by previous owners?

Growing up in a truck stop filling station in the sixty's and early seventy's I have seen more than my share of welded on axle nuts and lots of red loctite trying to hold bearing from spinning. It appeared a lot of folks didn't have axle nut sockets either. Lots of chisels and hammers used to remove axle nuts. We had more than our share of over the road truck junk come threw our shop.

Not as bad as what you are showing but. That's why (P)revious (O)wner = P.O. Current owner.
1. Cut out four feet of the wire in the middle of the black tank sensors feed
2. Bypass the transfer switch for the generator
3. put in a new dash and then not fully wire it up.
4. Replace the driver and passenger seats with bad hole spacing that didn't allow them to be adjusted.
5. disconnect hydronic heating hoses and push them below the floorboards
6. disconnect one bank of the jake brakes.
7. install new transmission shifter where you can not lock the bus into first gear for climbing a steep pass.
8. wires/wires everywhere!!!

Welding a lock nut in place is not as bad as I seen on a Prevost before someone used the wrong lug nuts studs on the front hubs and welded those in place instead of buying the right studs, you can see some crazy stuff on old buses

Enough weld will generally hold it...

I'm not defending extreme hack repairs but there is rationale when one is working on a 50 year old bus that has all sorts of stuff half working and broken. Just keeping it going is a win, not thinking about longer term repair as the thought is its next stop is the bus graveyard.

Suffice to say the worst day in my life. Was shop towels in my cooling system after buying my Prevo H3-40. Still to this day I won't point any fingers at anyone but they are forbidden any where near my engine compartment. ::)
