that sounds like something i might be interested in. i wont have a bus yet ofcourse but i would love to come down and see all the buses and get input from you guys.
-
July would be a stretch as we'll be in Canada.
August possible. We're in PA. Could see Bill & Roberta too!
Will keep watching the board.
Jerry H.
Nick and I have been kicking around a get together in July or August. I have room for a dozen or so coaches in the back yard. If it happens to get bigger than that, plan B will be implemented(whatever that may be). I'm in Harbeson. Delaware, 19951, about 15 min. from the beach. Looking for some feedback, possible attendance? Responses will get the planning stage started.
-
Ok,
Bruce has the space and a good location for a rally.
It's also easy to get to. And what is in mind is to get us bus guys together in the north east because, there's alot of us up here who don't have the time to travel long distances with our conversions still incomplete.
So throw your toilet and your sleeping bags in and here's your chance to make a trip in your bus. We are thinking of mabe a seminar or two, pig roast, and all the normal stuff.
Give us your comments!
Nick-
-
I might be ready for August. Possibly July, but that could be pushing it... Oh hell, bus is road ready anyway. I just prefer it to be done (for the most part) before going to rallys.
-
Don't worry about bus being "mostly done". If you wait until bus is "mostly done", you will see ideas in other buses that will make you want to change yours anyway. Better to see other buses and steal ideas BEFORE you get yours "mostly done". The first trip in our MC-8, we had an air mattress & sleeping bags, cooler full of ice, and a coleman stove. Our closet was the overhead luggage rack. Start enjoying the bus now. YMMV, Jack
-
Roger that Bruce!! I will be there! Coach, (Maybe my woman nad her 3 cats too!) So, please stake out my spot. I prefer 50 Amp service, water, sewer , phone anf, of course, cable TV.
See you there!!
Eric
-
Eric,
So far, It looks like we have about 7 confirmed attendees. and we havn't ironed out the festivities!!
We will get the plans out next week.
Nick-
I'm planning on it, but I can never be 100% sure until I pull in. I have a lot going on this summer and sometimes life gets in the way unexpecedly. I also had another thought. It'll just be me and my dog most likely, so if anyone is busless between Southern NH and Delaware and wants the lift (and could share fuel expense), I wouldn't mind the company. A friend and his wife say they want to go, but he always backs out.
-
Ross,
Thank You for the offer to our members! That's a nice jesture!
Hay, if you come down the coast, the cape may/ lewes ferry will put you about 5 mi's away from Bruce's Place!
Hope to see you Ross.
Nick-
-
Please email or message Nick if planning on the Delaware rally. He remembers thing that I don't.
-
The Cape May Lewes Ferry loaded up with bus conversions. Somebody get a camera!
-
Count us in! A good time promises to be had by all. Can't wait to see our friends again. Roberta says she will be happy to arrange trips to the beach & boards as well as a fishing trip to all interested. Hope to see you there.
Bill
-
Hi Bill & Roberta,
We are glad your comming! Have Roberta e-mail me. We need the help!
Bill here is a pic of our busses from April.
Nick-
-
What's the best way to get there from NH? 95 takes me through the big, scary city.... NYC, Cross Bronx Expressway, etc.
-
Ross,
I would try and come accross the Tappin Z Bridge, than down the Garden State Parkway, Than you can choose to go Either N.J.Turnpike to Delaware Memorial Bridge.
Or Stay on the Garden State Parkway to Cape May, Lewes Ferry. 1-1/4 hr ferry ride, than your 15 min to Bruces.

I thought the Garden State Parkway and NJ turnpike had all sorts of restictions on big rigs. I used to make that run all the time when I was living in NC. The ferry would be fun. What would the fare be for a 40' bus. Maybe I'll get a ferry all to myself. :)
-
Mapquest still puts me on 95 through NYC. I think any other route would add hours to the trip. Am I over reacting? I mean, tractor trailers run 95 through NYC. How bad is it really? I'd probably plan on leaving late afternoon, get through NYC after rush hour, catch some zzzz's in a truckstop and head on the DE. This will be the first long distance trip for my bus so I want to take it easy and take my time.
-
Ross,
All my trips to CT. I always use the Tappin Z, it might be longer but, the time factor is shorter [traffic NYC]
There is no restrictions anymore for towed vehicles [ thats the only restrictions that were in place] in N.J.
The Ferry will run you $54.00 for your bus. If you time it right, you can meet up with me at exit 13 GSP and we can cross together.

That's probably doable. Isnt't there a toll booth about every 100 yards on the GSP? How is that going to be with three axles and a toad? It's been a while, but I seem to remember that is was not at all "large Vehicle" freindly. The last trip I made was in 1991 with a 28' box truck towing a 38 foot Fountain and I got pulled over a number of times and hastled at just about every toll booth. I never got a ticket, just questioned more on the truck than the boat. The only boat related questions were things like "How fast is that?" or "How much fuel does it burn?".
Taking the ferry into consideration, maybe I'll leave the toad at home. Shouldn't need it for this relatively short weekend trip...Unless I decide to keep going south after the rally to look at property.
-
Ross, Your Wrong.
It's every 50 yards! Ha! Ha!
The GSP is Bus/ Motor Home Friendly Now! I have EZ Pass and I just take one from my car and use it in the Bus all the time!! Don't tell...
A 38 Fountain is a Kool Boat!!! If you don't take the toad, we will have lots of transportation at Bruces!
Nick-
-
Bring the fountain, bring the fountain. I would personally try and avoid rush hour traffic. Plan to get through the city in the middle of the day or the middle of the night. Then take a nap. I used to drive a big truck north all the time (some of the time) and other than traffic there is no problem with the city.
-
Ross,
Next Saturday I’ll be heading to Maine.
With the route I take from here, it’s 5 hours to Maine.
Here’s the route= NJ287 to Ny 87 to 84 to 90(Mass turnpike) to 290 to NH495, that’s it done.
Coming south this way the only toll is 1 exit on the Mass turnpike.
No NYC traffic.
You can run Nj287 back to the parkway and cut out at least ½ the tolls.
Nick what time are you catching the ferry?
;D
-
Ed and Ross,
I think I'll either leave Thursday PM or Fri Am ??? Not sure Yet...... Let me know your thoughts!
Nick-
-
Bring the fountain, bring the fountain.
Ah, the good 'ol days...back when money was growing on trees and I was young(er), stupid and not worried at all about retirement. That boat had triple 525SC mercs with #6 speedmasters. I remember spending over $2000 in fuel one weekend on a poker run in Maine. Those were late 1980's fuel prices. I sold the Fountain in the early 90's.

That's the route I remember taking from NC to ME....Except now I'll just take 91 > Mass Pike > 84 > 684 > 87 > GSP. Flying is soooo much easier. :)

I'll probably leave early and take my time.
-
Ross,
Mabe we can all meet at my place thurs nite, You, me, Ed Sciba, and anyone else who wants to. Than we'll have a Party on the Ferry!! Fri Morn.
That would be a great Photo!
Nick-

Sounds like Ed is out, but I'm game. Too soon to be making plans anyway. The sky could fall between now and then...Or worse, my bus might be broke down. I still have some plumbing and the floors to do... Plus I'm working on the house full time for the next 3 weeks to get it ready to go on the market.

Nick you spelled my name wrong,
If I drive down it will be less hours than taking the ferry, They want you there an hour before departure ( mirror check and dog sniffing) and then a 1-1/2 hour boat ride.
Maybe on the way back ,Just to say I did it and see some Dolphins.
-
Ed,
Sorry,
I make reservations and pull up 10 mins before departure, No problem.
I think I've been on the big boat 12 times allready this year. Koo Koo, I Know!!! But, I live 10 min's from it.
Nick-

Hey Jerry, hope you & Linda can make it. Sorry no email yet Nick, talked to Bruce today, plans sound good, might see you for the tree trimming party! Can't wait to see the progress on everyones busses.

Ok Guy's, The plans are set!
Check out the first post of this thread! Let the fun begin.........
Nick-
-
The first post also has Directions pasted to it!
The Rally of the North East! Easy to get to!!
Nick-
-
Bruce and Nick!
Two things I want to ask about.
1.) Is there a cost for this get together? or is it on a donation only type setup. I don't feel right about enjoying the largesse unless we have our part paid into it to help defray the costs.
2.) Since this is on the Chesapeake, where is the blue crab feed? and the clam bake and the crab cakes?
Now my tummy's hungry!
I shouldn't have been thinking about it this early!

Crabs are do-able for sure, as we get a little closer and know how many will be here. I would be glad to pick some crabs. It's a little early in the season to find out crab prices though.
Donations will work, for the first annual Delaware rally.
:) I made an agreement with my bus, if it couldn't go to a rally, I'd bring a rally to it.
-
By August, the Chesapeake Blue Claw crabs Should be the right size for good eating!! Yummy......
That is, as long as the we don't see any major storms to sweep em away!
Donations are fine but, Not required. Come and have lot's of fun, food, and meet lot's of bus nuts.
If anyone needs any info about the area, I'll try to post some more.
Nick-
-
What about Oysters? Used to love to go to the little oyster shacks and get a 1/2 bushel to eat raw dipped in drawn (melted) butter. Does anything like that even exist anymore?
Richard

Richard,
Are you Kidding Me! We live off Oysters!
There are more Oyster Festivals around the Delmarva area then anywhere!
Nick-

Hey Bruce you missed the kicking of tires and tinkering! Nick hopefully we get to see that new paint job. Speaking of new paint jobs I saw the pictures of 1 side of Bruces MCI, can't wait to see the whole enchalada, as well as the progress on Walts MCI.
See you all there
Bill

Where do I sign up?
Many years ago (50?) I was in SC and used to go up the coast north of Georgetown to a little oyster shack. Was really only a shack with picnic tables with a square hole cut out in the middle. Would get a peck of steamed oysters and a cool one and sit there and shuck the oysters, dip them in butter and down they went. The shells thru the hole in the table to a wash tub.
Are those type of places still in existence? As I recall they had a big steel plate with a wood fire underneath. Would throw the oysters on the plate and cover them with a wet gunnysack for a few minutes till they steamed open a bit.
Sometimes there was a little boy around that we could give a nickle to and he would shuck them for us!
Good times!
Richard

Richard,
Boy, you are missing alot living out there in W.V. I'll jot your name down!
This weekend, I'm gonna be the shucker for my Masonic Lodge's Annual seafood fest. I'm sure I'll be eatin almost as many as I'll be shuckin!
Nick-
-
Hey Bill & Roberta:
Yup, Linda and I will be there (kids too!). Looking forward to seeing you both. Guessing you're not coming to N.S. We had to pull the plug on taking our coach due to fuel $$$. With all of our projects going on here -- we're bleeding money. By the by ... installed a peat filtered septic system. Nice low profile drainfield. See you in DE.
Jerry

Hey Coachcrazy, you won't be the only one there without a bus. This one is pretty close to me, so I am coming too and bringing my son (little Jr busnut) with me. Maybe we can get someone to fire one up so we can take a little ride.
Jimmy

The water has gone away, I was wondering if I should stock my yard with fish
-
As of today,
We have 12 confirmed bus attendee's. That's Great........
Come on Guy's, we have room for 20!
Nick-
-
3 1/2 weeks and counting! Small Change.....
We added a seafood menu for Sat. night :P Crabs, Clam Strips, & Fish & Chips ;D ;D ;D ;D Yummy!
Lets hear it Guy's, We would like a rough count on who would like to attend.
Post here if your are thinking about it.
Thank You!
Nick, Bruce
-
I'm planning on it, but I can't confirm 100% until I roll in. Things in my world are a bit unstable right now. No telling what will be going on in a month. If my house sells quickly I may have to start moving.
-
Ross,
Good luck selling your house.. Are you going to Full Time in the Bus?
-
Hi, we are Louis & Loretta McKenzie,we are just starting our conversion on a 77 mc-8. we would like to attend the rally (we have never been to one). I was wondering if there is a pre-registration fee, or a fee at the rally. can someone fill us in on this? Also can route 13 be used once over the delaware memorial bridge? we look foward to seeing all of you.
louis & loretta mckenzie
-
Hello Lewis & Loretta,
Welcome! We would love to have you come and join us. Will you be bringing your "8"? Hope so!
You can use rt. 13. Also, rt. 1 through Dover is fast. Directions are on the first page but, you can also call us for details.
At this time there is no fee for the rally but, we can always except donations of your liking. Side dishes for meals always helps too!
I'm looking forward to meeting the both of you. I'm sure you will be able to gather lots of ideas for your bus.
Contact Bruce Knee or myself at any time if you need to. Again, Hope to se you!

2- Also we will hold a raffel for some Visa Gift Cards on Sat night.
3- And we will demonstrate the Basement Heat Pumps and the proper routing of the duct work.

Hey Nick - if you're feeling that energetic, I have a Onan Quiet Diesel Generator that you could show the proper slide-tray building and mounting technique, and proper electrical hook-up and fuel-line routing!! LOL

Hi Ed,

Hey, if anyone down there in Harbeson, DE knows this** ...
Linda, daughter and I are coming down Friday.
Our son is coming home on Sat., I need to pick him up at the Phila. airport and bring him down to Harbeson.
**Is there a place down there to rent a car so I can drive up to PHL airport and back to Harbeson?
The other option is to have Linda also drive down -- but just got to thinking a (close by) car rental agency might make more sense.
We don't have a hitch.
Your input is appreciated.

Hey Bruce and Nick - I'm finally able to push in the clutch, so we'll be there. I'm just trying to get a few last minutes touches done before we go. Save us a good spot - we'll be there about dinner time, depending on the traffic.Looking forward to finally meeting everyone. With all the postings about this rally, the only thing I think is missing is a phone number to call, in case I get lost on the way down. We go to Millsboro for the pumpkin chucking, so I know that area. See you all tomorrow.
-
Hi Ed,
Glad to hear your feeling better! Sorry about the phone #'s.....609-827-7331 cell.
