Title: The Eagle Has Landed!
Post by: Dreamscape on March 08, 2009, 07:01:25 AM
Becky and I are now fulltiming in our Eagle. We loaded a storage unit yesterday with stuff that will have to be sorted out as time allows. Becky did sell/gave away a lot before I got home last Saturday.

We are parked at www.buckcreekrvpark.com. The spots are pull through and very large. Exit 294, on I-20 6 miles east of Abilene TX. Easy on and off the freeway.

My hot water heater sprung a leak. Could not figure out why the circuit breaker tripped. Took off the thermostat cover and saw water dripping out of the unit onto the hot wire! Guess I'll go to Lowe's and try to find a 1500 watt screw in type or but a brand new heater. It's a household type, 19 gal.. Otherwise so far so good.

Also have to contact DirecTv/KVH for some help setting up our satellite. It's locked on 101 bird, says no signal. It's the first time we've used it since I installed it, so understandable. Any ideas guys and gals?

Gotta go and unload the cars, just have to figure out where to put the stuff! ;D We still have not installed the upper kitchen cabinets, so we are somewhat limited for storage right now. We'll get there eventually!

I guess we're part of the mobile crowd now, Oh Boy!

Way to go Paul and Becky I have wanted to do that for years but our bus won't hold all of Sonja's sewing stuff I could get rid of my toys but not her.I am so tired of paying property taxes, mowing grass and all the repairs on a house. If you ever need a place to park we have 50amp with water and sewer here in AZ also in Texas and the place in Idaho has power only.Like my buddy Doyle (Texas borderdude) came to the realization one day you don't own a house it owns you so he sold it and him and Coffee (the dog) are happy going down road where ever they want to go     good luck

WOW !    ;D ;D  Way to go Paul old buddy old pal.   It's come a long way since I saw it the first time in the barn.

As always we want photos. The bus, the bus at the camp ground, the bus with you and Becky.  Get the picture.  Weren't you just renting the house, if I remember correctly?

Now before it gets cold next year, how are you fixed for heat?

Way Cool Paul!

I know you have worked at this for a long time and am glad to see you finally made the trade!

When you get more comfortable with full timing, Cat and I, along with a lot of other people will be glad to pass on some full timing tips that we've learned from years of experience.

Sometime you and the boss will need to run down here to Franklin, TX and visit for a few days!

Good Luck,

Dallas

Welcome to the "houseless" crowd!  Aside from few minor limitations, this life is soooooo uncomplicated.  You should really enjoy it!  Where's to?  I hope to run across you on the road someday!

Homeless and unemployed is how I prefer to describe our current status.  Welcome to the asylum.  We're headed in your general direction but currently sort of undecided as to an exact route across Texas.  Tomorrow we visit the Thousand Trails transfer office in Gautier, MS.  Assuming they have our membership transfer processed then we may try out one of the TT campgrounds on the way.  That means our travel plans are still cast in Jello but that seems to be OK now.

It has been a positive day! Fixed the water heater, the element was shot! Got the Directv working great! The KVH locked on and the signal was about 94%. My wife is very HAPPY! Can't get the local ABC though, CBS and NBC come in pretty good. Becky is not happy about not getting ABC, as she really likes it.

We are out of the house completely! Was a good feeling to leave the keys on the counter, shut the door and walk out.

Clifford, Tell Sonja that Becky will be doing some quilting as soon as I get her sewing area operational. Going to remove the couch and install a computer workstation along with a table for her machine.

Bill, You can see pictures and a more complete synopsis in my website/blog. I'll try and keep it updated, although I'm leaving tomorrow for a month.

Dallas, We'll get down to see you guys one day, I promise.

Doug, Another mobile Texan to join you!

Bob, I'm still employed for another couple of years. But we can still move about because my wife can work from the bus, and I can leave from just about any airport for my work.

David, Stop by here in Abilene anytime, we'll be here for a while yet.

Ed, we sold the lawnmower and didn't look back!

Jack, We'll see you down the road someday I'm sure. Maybe at one of our bus rallies, we could take turns visiting.

Mike, problems are an everyday occurrence, just have to make lemonade out of lemons!

PP and PacNWNomad, This has been a dream of mine for many years, now we can live it!

John, We will defiantly see each other on the road soon.

"Happy Trails"

~Paul and Becky~

I'm planning our first big trip to Oregon in June. It's looking like a 6 week journey, 4-6 days from Abilene to Sisters OR. One week with my brother and his wife in Sisters, then up to Vancouver WA to spend some time with our friend Doug (Doug1968) and his wife Lori, then on down to Salem to visit my folks. Then onto Rickreall OR to attend BUS'N USA. Then back to Abilene and the real world! We also plan to stop and see Clifford and Sonja, along with Van and Cheryl and anybody else on the way up and back. I haven't confirmed that with anyone, so if our plans don't match we'll try another time.

If any of you have taken this route or have a better one in mind let me know. Of course I'm trying to stay away from the high country and stay on the flats.

That is way too much planing, you haven't been away from work long enough.  Enjoy it more and only plan for the next day, sometimes not even that far ahead.  More than anything else when you full time enjoy every day of the rest of your life.  We only did the full time for five years, what a great time we had.  Some times I think we should do it again.  Sure hope you will enjoy the life as much as my wife and I did.

Jack, I am still working for another two years. We're just living in our rig fulltime to get it set up the way we like it. I agree that planning is not as important as the experience. I'm just getting a feel for our first big trip in the ole Eagle. We'll stop here and there along the way and get there when we get there. It's fun none the less!

So I guess that makes us part time fulltimers huh! ;)

Don't apologise Paul.  There's no "right" way to do this thing.  I described us earlier as "unemployed & homeless" but we both work on contract.  So we not completely unemployed, we just don't know what we'll be doing a year (or sometimes a month) out.  Being a consultant just means that you are unemployed but get to deduct your living expenses.

We still seem to need some measure of planning in our lives but right now that means that we are generally headed west.  We have a reservation for the last weekend of the month so we know where we will be then but not exactly how we will get to that point.  After that we want to be in Regina by the end of April and we have a reservation for the middle of June through to the end of July so we know where we will be then too.  Further out we "plan" to go to Mexico for the winter 2009/10, Alaska in summer 2010 and back to Florida for the winter of 2011/12.  I think that even those people who claim to travel aimlessly could tell you a similar broad plan if you pressed them hard enough.

I expect you will really enjoy Rickreall - I know we did.  We keep thinking that we need to get back there but we have so much fun at our current summer spot that it is hard to tear ourselves away even for a week to get to Rickreall and back.

After you leave Rickreall if you are headed home i suggest that you take the short hop over to the coast and head south for a while. The Oregon coast is gorgeous, well worth a bit of a detour......you will also get to see the redwoods and the elk. :)  Hopefully we will be at the rally again this year, my summer employment may be a little iffy this year, don't know for sure yet where we are gonna end up.

Bob, I do enjoy planning, because they always change for one reason or another. I'm at the point in my life that I just want to enjoy it more and work less. My job allows me to do that to a point. The poor economy has helped in that respect. Our workload has really fallen off a cliff. So I'm gonna make lemonade out of lemons!

Ed, Being a born and raised in Oregon I agree that the Oregon Coast has the best scenery, Mo's in Lincoln City is our usual stop for lunch. This time I want to travel more inland and see parts that we haven't seen before. One day we'll make the coast journey from So Cal to Astoria in the bus following the Pacific Coast Hwy as much as possible. Also when I'm fully retired and have nothing else to do. ;D

M&C, You will enjoy tripping in your bus no matter what stage you're in, just do it! I wish we hadn't waited so long. I kept telling myself, when I get 'er done. Well that hasn't happened yet, it'll never be totally finished anyway, so we're stepping out and going for it.

Life is GREAT!

Paul,

While in Oregon you might want to spend a night or three at this facility. Carole and I stayed there June
2008. It is a very nice facility, close to the Oregon Dunes, and fresh seafood to eat. Life doesn't get much better than this area of Oregon. Its right on the coast just north of Coos Bay.

Will, Thanks for the link and description! I saved it so I won't loose it! ;) Looks like a great place to stay for a week or more.

The Oregon Coast Line is second to none. I have had many memorable times there from Astoria to Coos Bay. I sure miss it living in Texas!

Jim and All, The date for TBR 2009 is October 15-18. My wife is working on the Registration Form and it will be posted as soon as it's finished. Some details have not been finalized yet, like the catered meal/meals and the location is not locked in yet. More than likely it will continue to be held at Eisenhower State Park in Denison. I will get together with Sonnie and discuss it at the appropriate time.

Too many rallies, too few weekends.
