Title: Any of you have a Scenicruiser in MD?
Post by: WEC4104 on October 03, 2009, 09:05:02 AM
I spent last night in my 4104 at a local county campground and a bunch of friends.   There was also a group of VW Bus owners (Westfalias) nearby.   A guy stopped by and starting asking questions, and when I offered to show him the inside. he called over to 6 other guys and I played tour guide.

One of the younger guys in the group stated his boss owns a '56 Scenic. He said his boss bought it in Bakersfield and he helped him drive in back to Maryland. The guy I was taslking to was more knowledgeable than the average guy you run into. .. He knew things like the fact that Scenics were originally built with two 4 cylinder engines mated together, and later swapped out.

Any of you guys own this Scenic and know the guy I was talking to?

I know the bus he is speaking of. It is PD4501-743 currently parked at the "Wheels of Yesterday museum" in Ocean City, MD. The owner's name is Doug Trimper. It was bought off eBay in 2004 and driven from Bakersfield, CA. to Maryland. It is currently for sale. It is converted on the inside. Outside is an attempt at the third Greyhound paint scheme that was used on the Scenicruisers. We call that paint scheme the "red stripe" version. That livery started in about 1966. There were five different paint jobs used on the Scenics from 1954 to about 1974 or so. The care-taker of the museum is Steve Schwartz. He can be reached at: (443)-783-0848 They are asking about $45K for the bus. See attached photo.

Yep, sounds like it is probably Doug Trimper's 4501 that he was referring to.   I get down to the Southeast corner of Delaware every so often and may need to take a side trip to O.C. sometime to check it out in the museum.

There is a bus similar to that in my area {Charleston SC}. I dont have any particulars on it, or any connections to the owner, but I have seen him list it on craigslist. I'd be happy to get his info and pass it along, CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Did a quick search on CL, I may have been mistaken about the scenic being for sale, the ad was for a different bus, a converted MCI.

I will still stop by the scenic, who knows, never hurts to ask!
