Title: Norman, OK. mobile mechanic advice?
Post by: John316 on January 05, 2010, 07:16:06 PM
We are sitting in the Walmart parking lot, in Norman, OK. We just lost a oil line, so we are going to need to get that fixed. It is a line that they creased when they installed the new air compressor. The Lord blessed, because we didn't get shut down. I discovered it when stopped. It is a steady stream, so we don't want to move until we get it fixed.

So, my question is, does anybody have any recommendations for a good mobile repair company? If nothing else, we will probably do MCI ERSA.

God bless,

John

If you can see it. Can you reach it? Can you take it off and have another one made at a local hydraulic shop and put it back on? In most cases, that's what the mech. would do...Just a thought...Cable

Cable,

Yes we could do that. The problem is we are sitting in a Walmart parking lot, and we don't have the ability to drain the oil into something. I might do it if we had a toad, but we don't. I know that is all the mechanic will do, but that appears to be our best option.

God bless,

John

Thanks, Cable.

We are trying to get the same guy that we used last time we were broken down in Ok city. We are farther south, then we were back then, but maybe he will come down...we will see.

God bless,

John

Get a 5 gal. bucket or two from walmart $3.00 also get oil drain pan.

Should only be short walk to parts place.

Hope this helps might be faster then waiting for service tech.

John, if you can figure out a way to drain the oil and get the line off, I can sned one of my employees down there and have him haul you to a shop to get the hose made. . don't know if that will help you out or not, but at least that way you'll have some transportation.  I'll check back on this thread in the morning and see what you found out.  Christy hicks

John,  as the guys have mentioned there shouldn't be that much oil coming out of the line..

Being that you are in the Midwest, any "good" hydraulic company>>  I like the Parker products, then there is Aeroquip and the large NAPA carries Weatherhead.    The large companies will have mobile line repair.   It will cost you less in the end if you call one of the LARGE hydraulic companies.  They will come out and build the line and install it for you.   The have to be careful with EPA and State water regs so they will have pans that will catch the oil.

Cheers!

Thanks for the replies, guys. Here is what it looks like we will do. We will move over to a hydraulic supply store, that will make us a new line. I can bandaid that line, to make the block over there. Once there, I will replace it myself...at least that is the plan.

I will post more later.

Thanks again.

God bless,

John

I just got back from the Wallmart, east side of I-35.
As soon as I learned the situation, I jumped in the truck went to the Wallmart side of Best Buy to find if I can help( 10:22 AM). I found no bus. Circled around the store and came back.
I assume he fixed the problem and back on the road on his way. Wish him a safe journey rest of the way.

Thanks a lot, for the offers, guys. We moved out behind the wm to the Car Palace/auto supply inc, or whatever it is. They could make hydraulic lines, and they made us a new hose. We are now up and running, and will leave very soon.

Christy, thanks for the offer for transportation. We were able to make it the one block over the the place where we had a new hose made.

AJ, I think the biggest bummer is we didn't get to meet you. We were just behind Walmart, off of Hemphill, and 24th ave. Thank you so much for the offer to help. That was very kind of you. We moved over here at 9:20. Too bad we missed you!

Thanks again, everybody. We are getting rolling now.

God bless,

John

One other thing. That oil line didn't have oil in it, so I didn't have to deal with any oil. It was very nice, because that was the biggest reason why I wanted the mobile mechanic. Since we didn't have that to deal with, it really was no problem.

God bless,

John

Van,

There was no oil in the line, probably because it is pumped through there when the engine is running. That is what I figured, anyways...Looked to me like it is only pressurized while the engine is on.

God bless,

John

Well folks, we are about 20 miles outside of Abilene. We are making progress. This weather is really nice. I believe it to be about 60 outside, and sunny. Of course, things are supposed to get really cold in Carlsbad. I think it is supposed to drop into the lower 20's, and freezing rain...yuk. I wonder where the warm weather went?

BK, that would be nice if we were able to drop in at the big Q. Problem is schedule doesn't allow any visiting this trip... :'(. Oh, well. Like the weather though ;D.

God bless,

John

Paul,

I did think about getting in touch with you. Problem is, with the oil line repair, that really put us later. We won't get in until 10:30, tonight, and a stop would have just put us later.

It is only going to be about -15 this evening with the wind chill  ??? Arizona is sounding pretty good right now! Not to mention not as many bugs. I would rather be in 110* weather than this any day. They even closed schools here today because of the cold.
