I am not sure that there is much there for an bus engine conversion other than the engine. Unless the bus has a standard transmission, converting to a manual transmission would just not be worth it.
Having said that, if I had the money, I would be on my way with check in hand. I would not use it for parts, but rather another toy!!! That is a great looking truck and one that should not be parted out.

JIm, tom gets spoiled by having a fleet of mechanics available to fix what ever might break on his trucks lol. Up here cummins are pretty popular too, now that I think about it I can't come up with a single company that goes too far out of it's way to deliberatly build a bad engine tho some might turn up that way.

And the 'ole Corvette dash. Thanks to the California Air Resources Board, that truck is about a junker in CA...too, too bad.

Cody just about said it right-there really hasn't been any real clunkers of engines made (although I'd stay away from the Caterpillar 3176, but the newer C10 and C12 are really good). Even the Caterpillar 3208 and the Detroit Fuel Pincher 8.2 (both of which are really too small for full size buses) can be good engines with a good mechanic rebuilder. Good Luck, TomC

Tom, one thing about this area is that it's dirt poor right now, we're bucking a 28% unemployment rate and it's deepening. This used to be one of the wealthiest areas in the state when the copper mines were booming, work was hard but money was everywhere, people now have looked to what they can do themselves, we have a lot of owner/operators on the road, we have a lot of independant loggers etc and I'm seeing them search out the less desireable engines and using some magic words and loctite, they make an engine that seems to run forever on not much more than a hope and a prayer and at the same time saving thousands in the really scarce comodity, cash. I even know of one guy up here with a cat engine and he painted it green, just to please his father in law lol and it still runs great lol.

Get a nice furniture van and convert it to a fifth wheel trailer and you would be the envy of the BIG truck/trailer fulltimer crowd

These are a couple of no-expense-spared coachbuilt trailers from the Brawn team (current F1 Champions), which were sold to the new USF1 team at the end of last year. The trailers never left the UK and are still in Brawn's colours - USF1 went bust and these trailers were seized by the creditors and are now being sold.

PS. I would love to own a classic Yank truck such as the Peterbilt shown in the first post. Even if it wasn't legal to drive on our roads I'd still have one and just park it in my garden to annoy the neighbours.

Before I went the bus route I almost bought a semi tractor and partially converted furniture trailer to make into an RV. The main issue was finding anyone who would insure the thing. I also faced the secondary issue of titling the tractor as an RV. (Maybe it was titled as an RV already. I don't recall.) I would have needed to buy a newer tractor as the included one was junk. I was mostly interested in the trailer.
I have since learned that there is a length limit for recreational trailers so it probably wouldn't have been legal. Weigh stations would have been an issue too.
It would have been cool though. It was huge! I swear the inside height in the rear was at least 10 feet. I thought about making a real short second floor as a sleeping area.

Cody- did the engine leak oil after it was painted green (couldn't resist!).
I too looked into just pulling a fifth wheel behind my tractor since it had a big sleeper with all amenities and I could have registered it as an RV (as long as you change the big fifth wheel to a small RV type fifth wheel plate). But making a Motorhome out of my truck won out-I'm a motorhome type, and my wife loves being able to roam through the bus while travelling. Good Luck, TomC
