I'm under 40 by just a year or two.  I think I was probably the youngest bus owner at Bussin' 2011 at Arcadia.

Yes, 32.
My bus is used more for a huge play house for my 4 yr old and nightly escape to the man cave when all of the girls ( 1 year old twins, 4 year old and mommy ) get a little to pink for me.

I used to be a "busnut under 40" but that was twenty years ago.  It took a little longer than being 40 before I could fulfill my dream.

Does 40 count?
I think starting young is great. We might know something when we retire.

I think you would be surprised . I know of several who didn't respond yet. Age does matter some what; that I am envious of 30yr old in hobby only because I didn't start til my mid 40's.Does my two 1/2 year old grandson count.  He doesn't miss a coach going down road and is learning what make they are.

John,

Are you taking the bus? You all have the possibility of having a lot of fun in the snow. Actually, there is a very good chance you will. Drive safe, and don't take any risks. I seriously say that, because I have helped more then one southerner out of a ditch (but you have probably lived up north before, so you guys are fine ;)).

I am sorry to hear about your uncle. My condolences to you and your family.

Keep us updated on the trip.

God bless,

John

Im thirty nine with ten years of experience. Did my first conversion at seventeen with my Dad and Uncle. Had my first conversion at Twenty and I sure wiish I still had the cinder blocks, milk crates, and two by eights that made up the Hillbilly Hevmobile. Still have the cooler, coleman stove and camp table from the galley...

Drove mine (still a bus) home when I was 49 and that was 1997.   Still have it and love it (as opposed to my first wife  ;D ).  I'd do another one(bus-that is) , but I think I'm running out of time 8)

And my coach is also one of the youngest, too. "Urge" is only 21!

Well life rolls on and I am now 46 with three kids, too much work, and almost no time to spend on my bus.  My bus is 40 mins away so it is not advancing.  If I moved into it with the family I don't think much would get done either.  On a positive note my coach is older than me by 12 years and  and that makes me feel good, maybe it's wiser too.

The bus is under 40!! Does that count? Started the first one 1998 at 37. Put the last on on the road in march 2010 after an almost ten year conversion!! Still have the last bus and the first wife. Very happy with how both turned out! (P.S. Please quote me on that if you see her. Need all the points I can get for the next bus!!LOL)

Damn you guys are younger than most of the buses here lol

See why we depend on your vast knowledge so much? ;)

Seriously though it's not the actual age of the busnut that means a thing! As my granddaddy always said "yer only as young as ya feel" and he was quite the cut'n up young act'n man until his stroke at 83 yrs old. But he wuz quite impressed when he went in for his three month check up after the stroke and the dr told him he was fit as any 63 yr old man he'd ever seen! (dr mis-read his age on the chart, but later told us he was serious about "Pap" being in great shape physically!)

Now as fer my age I'm 44 (OK 45 next month) and I've been a busnut for 13-14 yrs. But still don't have one converted YET! (it's coming soon though, I feel like this is the yr an older Setra goes behind the shop and gets started being converted with or w/o out dad's permission.

I'm 55, my son who shares my computer and is usually looking over my shoulder is almost 20. We both have the disease, so I guess he might be the one of the youngest on here. No bus yet, so does that make our bus 0 years old? Then James could be in the running for both awards. LOL.  ;D

Not sure age under forty has any great significance on being crazy enough to own a bus. I am just over forty at 48 and still have to work during the week so I can use bus on weekends during the summer for now. The only thing being under forty will do for you is you have more years to sink  money into your bus LOL.

I'm about 20 yrs older than our bus and have not been rebuilt....yet...although I'll look foreward to some new ss skin (seems useful) and could change out some old handles I've got hanging around...maybe a new windshield sometime................not bad for a 1954 version (only ridden by a little ol lady twice a month or so)

When I was 25 I looked 40 so I lost out on the genetic lottery, but I made up for it by marrying my wife who will pass for 30 and she is older than I am by two years. I have had my bus long enough now not to qualify for a yes to your question. Anyone out there over a hundred?

I picked up a '70 Silver Eagle just after my 35th birthday in October. It's my 4th bus. It's a sickness, I'm convinced. :)

All of my others are skoolies. A '58 Chevy, '63 Chevy, and '64 GMC (tailgating rig for the last 3 years).

Good to see I'm not the only one starting early.

I bought my first bus at the ripe old age of 20 (1976) a beautiful (to me) '52 Beck.  My second was a 4106, when I was 30, my third, an '84 Prevost when I was 49.  It's amazing how the time and money flies!

Nice to see other young guys on here as well; I feel good knowing that young != bad taste.

Seriously, what would you rather have:

- purple Civic with 8" fart pipe and double wing / F350 with crappy lift kit, chrome rims that never go offroad, and sags towing a 25' wooden travel trailer

- or a shiny Prevost with a screaming Detroit, rev matching and you roll through the gears down a scenic road. Hell, even purging my air brake valve beside a boomy Civic at a stoplight gives me a smile!

This is a great topic and timely for me.

At Bussin 2011, Ace and I had a short, but good discussion on the future of Bus conversions as a hobby.

With the economy and the cost of fuel, plus with average age at rallies in the mid to late 60's, is there still interest for Younger Adults to do this.

I am glad to hear all the interest is still there and there are so many under 40's .

I am 52, and I would have skipped the Class "C" and went right to the Bus if I could turn back the clock.  ;)

I think the age is up there because of retirement. Most of us are still working and don't quite have the freedom to roam yet. At least that is my excuse LOL

Until i look in the mirror, or try lifting one of the bus tires, or try reaching in to turn a nut tighter or try for a second go at it in the same evening.
Then, i realize i ain't as young as i thought i was.  Damn mirrors anyway.  60's not that old, is it?

I am 35. Owned my first bus at age 24. I now have 2 Eagles.

Started driving entertainer coaches professionally at 19. Last time I checked I had logged 1,350,000 miles.
What a ride so far!!!!!

I wouldn't take any amount of money for the enjoyment I have gotten out of it.
I hope to do it 40 more years.............
