Title: Airtabs???
Post by: wayne on March 07, 2011, 06:59:26 PM
Does anyone have working knowledge of these air tabs? I read the website which makes them sound to good to be true. I called air tab to inquire about placement but only got voicemail. The site refers to locating them in various locations on the bus including on top, in front of the ac's, mirrors and in front of the wheel openings.
I searched the previous posts on the board and couldn't find any testimonials from actual usage. I found people being referred to the airtab website but not any other info.

I think there's a busnut who uses them.

They do change the airflow, I am aware of a few of them being used strategically to change how the slop curls around the back and kept the tail lights clear in one application after their install.

The testimonials from truckers with them installed suggest better crosswind stability.

I can't recall if they've been run through one of the properly controlled and recognized fuel economy tests yet or not.

happy coaching!

I put them on my 28 ft car trailer many years ago, all around the back.  It really helped a bad sway problem I had with that combination, and I picked up around 1 to 1.5 mpg, which starting from around 8.5 and going to 9.5 was very useful (towing the box trailer with a pickup).  I know others who had a similar result.  I wouldn't put them on a bus, personally, but only due to looks.

I think there was an older Eagle at Quartzsite that had airtabs on it.  Owned by Bob Belter maybe?
