Post by: onrwey9 on April 25, 2011, 05:40:01 AM
My roof air just give up the ghost & I;m in Florida. It is a Coleman 13,500 Mach? .Fan works ,but blows warm , seems like compreesor kicks in ,but onlly for a second or two then stops ,reycles try again & stops.I could smell something ,inside coach , maybe r22, thinking maybe a leak. Any ideas about fixing or more cost effective to replace compressor or whole unit.It is about 9 tyrs old

Good description of basic trouble shooting.  I have never heard that these types of units can really be recharged very successfully.   I have heard that low voltage can make them unhappy.

Tried to post once and it didn't work. Arrgggh!
I'm no HVAC expert but I have owned a few motorhomes and several houses. It doesn't sound like a compressor problem. More likely a low freon problem with the low pressure switch stopping the compressor. You could try locating a leak on the tubing by looking for rub points where it might have worn through. If it's a coil leak, that would be tough to fix. At 9 years though, you're probably money ahead to replace it. Since warm weather is just arriving, I'd hate to start the year with a suspect AC unit. Just my opinion. Good luck.

Camping world shows a Coleman Mach 15 for $746.99, Not sure on installation charge?
9 year old AC, I would not want to spend money on it unless it was something simple I could diagnose and fix myself, it would have to be real simple!

Not sure about low voltage in a park with 50 amp  & a lot of high end S&S  checked hook up for correct voltage & amps when 1st got here 4days ago everthing seemed to be ok? then

Don't fool with it-go to Camping World and have a new one installed. You'll be the happiest camper for the rest of the year.  If the 13,500btu does the job, save your money and not buy the 15,000btu.  Good Luck, TomC

Have some one check it (Marvin)  it could be as simply a 10.00 start run cap. I have known Colemans to run for over thirty years. Don't jump to soon.      Tony

This brings up an interesting though:
Things I bought 30 years ago hoping they'd last 30 years usually did. Things I buy today hoping they'll last 5 years usually don't. Guess that's progress.

We have a black 40ft, 2 A/C will just barley cool it on a hot day in the sun.

That means we never leave home without all 3 in working order.  You do not want to be in ours on a hot day with only 1 A/C
and I would never assume that anything on board is ever going to make any trip without some sort of failure because something always does.
