Title: Lesson Learned
Post by: Paso One on September 22, 2006, 04:34:25 PM
If one person benefits from my mis fortune it is worth the space this takes.
I was touring someone I knew thru the bus, he had someone with him that he didn't know all that well. (I find out now) well I pointed out my battery bank ( 4 8 D's ) and my new 3000 watt inverter.  During the visit it came out of my big fat mouth that I was quiting early today as I had a wedding to go to tonite. Yes you guessed it next morning I noticed the front door was ajar thought I was careless not closing properly looked in and around nothing out of place.   I noticed at yet another touring No inverter.
Well there goes another $1000.00 into the project.   Just for your information all my tours are closed.  You want to tour the project leave your fingerprints and your name here :)

Paul,

Sorry to hear about what some IDIOT will do to ruin someones day..week...etc... >:(

Hopefully, you will help prevent this from happening to someone else.

Was the bus at your house or a storage?

Paso One, your words fall on fertile ground here.  Thank you for the 'head's up' on the topic.  We, as a Busnut community are always ready, sometimes too ready, to accept others who profess the same mindset.

But then, from within our midst, comes an experience like yours or worse yet, Sam Walker.  I guess we find such severe loyalty in each other (I've yet to be really disappointed with those I've met and come to know) that we can, at times, let out guard down and are taken advantage of.

You have my complete and total sympathy...but my guess is that it won't happen again.

Let us pray that the BusGods' will allow the fleas of a thousand camels to infest the armpits of the interloper! ;D

The Bus is parked at my office yard.  To add insult to injury I had just moved the bus back out of the security camera's recording veiw
However they likly did it at night and the color camera recording that area is weak for detail in the dark. And...... we are doing some construction and the fence that is usually secureing that area was removed for the constuction. Man is hindsight 20/20  I have been beating myself up for allowing this to happen by letting my guard down.  Paul

Paso one,
If I were you I would contact the local pawn shops and ask if they have anythig like that, or if they get things like that often, Then leave your name and number so you can be called if they get one in.

BUT, don't tell them yours was stolen, if they are not reputable they will not call you if it comes in. Also, Keep a watch on Ebay, the people like that are not very smart, he is likely to list it for sale there, or on Craigs list. Most theives have no ideal what or how those items work.

I would do some checking on your own, the local cops will take the report, and you should file one if for no other reason but for a tax deduction as a loss. BUT, most police departments have no time to follow up unless you were to find it for them, or they know the guy that you suspect..

Thanks nc bob and Jimc I have done that exactly I called our 10 or so pawn shops "looking to buy " a power inverter currently only small ones at most shops. I said I need something bigger like a 2500 watt or up. Most seem to think they don't make them that big. Our police department is linked to every pawn shop and they are required by law to get identification off any person pawning something and they lose there licsense if that info is not on the pawn ticket. If he pawns it in this town the serial # will trip the computer link and the police will be down there. Unfortunately I'm not going to hold my breath. I'm told the scum bags take orders from buyers and go looking for the item the buyer wants. garanteed sale.  I'm hoping it ends up at the pawn but if this wasn't a inside job I'm not likely going to see it. I hope I'm wrong ( usually I am when speculating :)  ) I am planning for his return:) :)  I know how to lay a trap :)

Paul,

I suspect you may well save someone here some grief by sharing this with us.  I know it has made me think about being much more careful in who I show the bus to.

Thank you - and I definetly hope those responsible will get what they deserve for this.

Best Regards, Phil

I would be seriously after " the person that you knew " with some serious questions about his buddy. Maybe have the local Fuzz ask him
a few questions too?

With some detective work I would bet that someone knows who took it and where it is. What you describe was not a random act.

Just my gut feeling about this stuff....

Yes Dr dave I agree it wasn't a random act I believe it to be the person that visited. the guy I knew was actually a customer and I have spoken with him and we will be attempting to uncover wether his buddy did it or arranged it. The police believe it was just a lucky find for the thief and he saw something new and made off with it. I won't accuse the person till I have proof.  once I do I will burn him.
My suspections are based so far only on 1. He was here on the afternoon before. 2. He knew what it was and commented on it. 3. the thief smoked, he does also. 4. The thief took the time to disassemble rather than cut and run. He knew I was gone for the night.  not much for proof but in my books it is enough to suspect the visitor.

I can concur with that.  We were in San Diego at Campland on the bay and as we were leaving, a class A came in with what turned out to be gypsies.  I nievely gave them a tour.  As I left, was trying to find my cell phone, and submized that one of them took it.  Turned around and went back and told them I didn't care if one of them "mistakenly" took it, just wanted it back.  Surprisingly, they produced it and said the young boy (looked to be about 8) had lifted it.  So, my doors are closed also-at least if my stuff is out in view.  As said, 20/20 is hinde sight.  Hope some of you out there are more careful.  Good Luck, TomC
