I was running my 73 Eagle last month and it shut down. I haven't been able to get it started since. I have about 8-10 inches of fuel in the tank and I changed the fuel filters. Still no start. My bus has an 8V71 DD and it has never given me a problem unless I ran out of fuel. Help please. Thanks.

Does it crank over with good speed? Is there any smoke of any kind while cranking? Have you double-checked any emergency shutdown mechanism? Have you verified that the engine stop lever on the governor is in the run position?

I looked for a diagram of the governor and the emergency shut off. It all looks the same as it did before on top of the engine. No smoke of any kind. I did test the emergency stop button after it would not start and could hear a clicking noise like an electric switch or something. I tried to find the reset for the emergency stop but to no avail. I removed the air filter and reached as far up as I could to see if there were any dampers that were shouting off air to the engine but there were none. I could make a picture of the top of the engine and post or email it. Thanks for your reply.

If it is cranking and there is no smoke, then there is no fuel. If there was an emergency shut down flap engaged and there was fuel there would be a lot of white smoke. No smoke equals no fuel. That means it has lost prime or the engine stop lever is in the no-fuel position. It has probably lost prime.
The engine stop lever is the one on top of the governor that isn't connected to the throttle cable. It probably has an air cylinder to push it clockwise to stop the engine, so the check is to see if it's turned all the way clockwise, or if you can move it. It moves about an eighth to a quarter of a turn, not much. If you hit the emergency stop switch and there was a click, then you have probably set the emergency stop flap closed. I don't know how to find it to reset it on an Eagle, on a MCI there is a largish round solenoid on top of the blower air intake with a push-rod that moves the flap, there is a ratchet that needs to be clicked open.

Thank you! I will check all that you mentioned and reply. Do you know what kind of electrical switch that is mounted in the floor near the or in the middle of the fuel tank?

Nope, I don't have a clue about that switch! Sorry :D

Yes near the fuel tank in the 1st bay up on the side of the tunnel going down the middle, you should find 3 holes next to each other. There are 3 self re-setting circuit breakers. When they cool after tripping they re-set themselves.

You access the emergency shutdown on your model of Eagle from the inside of the coach there is a hatch you remove to reach it I have a 05 with that switch and to me it looks like it controls the fresh air intake on the sides but never really dug into to it
Eagles pick fuel up from the passengers side tank 8 inches on the drivers side it not going to make it if leaning on the drivers side I would say you are out of fuel or below the pickup tube
Disconnect the line from the primary filter and blow air into it if you don't hear a bubbling in the tank then pour fuel in it

It appears to be the fuel pump that was not working. I have another one that looks the same but I'm trying to determine if it will work. I did get the bus started with the help of an electric fuel pump and I added more fuel to the passenger side tank to make sure it was picking up the fuel.

All fuel pumps will work just check the arrow on the pump it tells you where the inlet is located that is the only difference they all turn left on a 2 stroke left handed or right handed engines
Check the drive yoke they are bad about rounding a square shaft doesn't do good in a round hole ::)
