Title: Operator Are Standing By for a Three Day Marathon!!!
Post by: Gary Hatt - Publisher BCM on January 17, 2014, 08:56:59 AM

Call (657) 221-0432

Yes, you read that right.  This is a very special Marathon, where all of our operators will be standing by (which is basically myself) Gary Hall, all day today, Saturday, and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (PST) with a Subscription Order Form at the ready, to personally take your New or Renewal Subscription order for Bus Conversion Magazine at 10% off.  I have decided to work through this weekend to ensure we give everyone a chance to sign up or renew their Bus Conversion Magazine Subscription before the holiday special expires. We have 1-Year Subscriptions starting at only $22.50 per year until midnight Sunday, January 19th.  That is dirt cheap. This is the only magazine on Earth devoted solely to the bus conversion market.  Don’t make me feel like the Maytag man, call now at (657) 221-0432.

BCM will never be available at this discounted price ever again.  Call me right now at (657) 221-0432. If you reach our voice mail, please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as I can.  As long as you leave a message before the Sunday deadline, you will qualify for the one-time discount.

If you are reading this message it is because people that subscribe to Bus Conversion Magazine are paying to support the cost to maintain the website and this Forum that had over 1-1/4 Million page views last month alone. WOW! That is a lot of page flipping, and I don’t think people are doing it just for the exercise.  Many of the folks read the Forum to offer or gain helpful technical information, or opinions about different aspects of owning and operating a bus, or even to request technical help while stranded on the side of the highway.  Others just like to read it to keep up with what is going on in the Bus Conversion community.

For every order I take over the phone today, tomorrow, and Sunday, I will take one shot of Jack Daniels to celebrate the new order.  I stopped by the liquor store last night and picked up 100 cases of the stuff.  I would like send a bottle to every one of you reading this, but unfortunately I won’t have time today.  I think everyone of you out there should do the same thing, take a shot of JD for each sale.  For each order I take today, I will add a note to this thread so you will know when to take a shot.  These next three days will be the most fun we ever had together. If you are low on Jack Daniels, run out to your local liquor store now and pick up a case, and let the fun begin.

If the phone lines are busy, you can also Subscribe or Renew on our website as you will read below.

A LOT of folks have already taken advantage of this opportunity to start or renew their subscriptions.  Most of my time in the past two weeks has been devoted to processing these orders.  Don’t get caught in the dust and left behind.  The magazine is only going to get better and thicker as we move forward and we have had a lot of offers recently from folks willing to submit articles about their bus and/or bus adventures, as well as a significant amount of technical content as well.  Renew now while it is fresh in your mind.

For the cost of only a nickel per day, less than the cost just to start your bus, you too can read the only magazine in the world devoted to bus conversions enthusiasts.

There are also some exciting new features starting this month for the Online and E-Mag Editions of the magazine. We know how much bus nuts love bus related photos. To feed that hunger we are introducing two new enhancements. First, as long as your computer is connected to the Internet, you can now click on photos to display a larger version in your web browser. How cool is that? With this ability, you can see all the finest details of each photo and zoom in to see if that really is your significant other at the rally after they told you they were going to visit mom for the weekend.

The second enhancement is an increase in the number of photos used. Authors often send in more photos related to the story than we have room to publish in the magazine. Starting this month with Sandy’s travelogue of their trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the Online and E-Mag Edition contain these additional photos. From now on there will be additional photos in most of the Featured Bus articles, some technical articles, and especially in rally coverage articles.  So if you attended a rally but your bus did not make it into the magazine, it may very well be in the additional content in the electronic version.

If you already have a subscription to the Online or E-Mag Edition then you are all set to enjoy these new features. If not, you can easily add Online access or an E-Mag subscription to your current Print subscription for an additional...

     $5   for a 1-year subscription
     $8   for a 2-year subscription
     $10 for a 3-year subscription

This applies to both U.S and Foreign subscriptions. New subscribers can include this add-on in the BCM Online Store. Current Print subscribers now have an option to add the Online access or E-Mag to their Print Edition subscription in the store as well.

BTW, this is not your average Mom and Pop website. BCM runs on a dedicated server that enables it to handle the heavy traffic required to run the Forum, maintain a Store, and allow people to subscribe to BCM, order Back Issues of BCM, order books about bus conversions, and allow people to read and download issues of BCM which takes a lot of bandwidth and a heck of a lot of horsepower.  To run a site of this magnitude, costs a lot of clams and takes a lot of man hours to support.

If you wish to continue to be able to read the Forum for years to come, please consider subscribing to Bus Conversion Magazine and see what it is all about. If you were a previous subscriber and discontinued your subscription, you will see there have been major changes over the past year since I purchased the magazine and the website and many more changes will be coming this year.  We hear from many readers that say they just can’t wait to receive their BCM subscription each month and they read it cover to cover. We get kudos on a regular basis on how well the magazine looks and the contents provided.

During our holiday special, we are offering 10% off new and renewals for subscriptions.  Think about how much you enjoy reading the Forum and consider subscribing to the magazine that supports the Forum.

We would also love to have you send us pictures and articles about your bus to feature it on the cover and in the centerfold of the magazine so you too can become famous. Heck, if I can do it, anybody can.  My bus was in the May 2013 issue which I full time in.

To celebrate the holidays we are offering a 10% discount special on all renewals and to all new subscriptions ordered by the new deadline. This is a one-time offer as a way of thanking our readers during the holidays.

This offer is valid for any type of subscription whether it is an E-Magazine that is emailed to you monthly, the Online Edition which can be read Online or downloaded to be read later and for the U.S. Standard Print or a U.S. First Class delivery of the magazine to your mailbox.  Unfortunately we are not able to offer this discount to non-U.S. subscribers for Print Magazines as postal rates are so high.  But this does apply to all E-Mag subscribers anywhere in the world.

To obtain this one-time discount, simply go online and renew your subscription using the Promo Code “xmas10off”.  Or you can simply email Linda with your name, phone number, mailing address, email address and credit card information before January 19th and she will update your records.  Or if you wish, you can call the office and we will take care of you over the phone at 657-221-0432.

Also, when renewing or subscribing, consider switching over to an environmentally friendly E-Magazine as it has several advantages.

The dog will not eat it.
It will not get lost in the mail.
It takes up much less space in your bus.
It will not get stained with coffee, beer, or wine.
You can search the entire PDF by words or phrases.
The Tree Huggers will not be giving you the evil eye.
It will not get wet when it is raining or snowing outside.
You can zoom in to make the text larger and easier to read.
You will not incur forwarding fees when you are on the road.
It will not turn yellow, get musty, dusty, and mildewed or fade.
It will not get torn up or crushed if you back over it with your bus.
It arrives at least two weeks before the First Class printed magazine.
You will not have to go out in the rain, sleet, hail, or snow to retrieve it.
It can be read on any computer, iPad, smart phone, or compatible device.
By clicking on any ad, a hotlink will take you directly to the advertiser’s website.
It will not be stolen by your mailman or your neighbor who also may be into buses.

      And best of all…

If your computer is lost, damaged, or stolen, we will replace all of your E-Mags for free.

If you currently receive BCM in a Printed Edition but would like to convert over to an E-Mag subscription, simply send Linda an email and she will convert your subscription over and it will be prorated and the Expiration Date extended as the E-Magazine is a less expensive subscription than the printed editions so you will receive more issues before your Expiration Date.

If you have any questions about your subscription, please email Linda at Linda@BusConversions.com

If you have any questions about anything else, contact me at Gary@BusConversions.com

Thank you,

We just received an order from Mick in MO for a 2-Yr Standard Print Subscription Renewal with the E-Mag Upgrade.  Mick had a raccoon living in his bus that chewed thru 41 (house) wires, all black wires and all unmarked.  Mark will be busy for a while.  He said he will take some pix of the wires before, during, and after and send us an article for BCM about the fun he had trying to match up the wiring again so when he turns on the bathroom light switch, the bedroom light doesn’t come in instead.  He may also include a picture of the stuffed raccoon he has over his mantel.

Everyone take their first shot of Jack Daniels with me.  1, 2, 3 Down the Hatch and shout “Hip Hip Hooray”!

We just received an order from a Bus Nut in FL for a 1-Yr Standard Print Subscription Renewal.  He was a subscriber a few years ago but stopped renewing his subscription a couple of years ago when the material in the magazine was being duplicated from previous issues. I assured him, under my watch that will not happen.  However we may as Paul Lawry (one of our Moderators) suggested, run a “Blast From The Past” section now and then of articles from over 10 years ago that were very interesting and historic.  However we will not do this until after we add more pages to the magazine.

This Bus Nut in FL is in the process of trading his completely finished Prevost for a 50% finished 42’ Truck Conversion with a 28’ box on the back.  He has offered to write an article for BCM about finishing up the Truck Conversion to suit his needs and why he chose to switch from a beautiful Prevost to a more utilitarian box truck type of RV.  Be watching for that article in an upcoming issue of BCM.

Everyone take their 2nd shot of Jack Daniels with me.  1, 2, 3 Down the Hatch and shout “Hip Hip Hooray”!

Good Morning Everyone.  :)

I've got my JD out and my shot glass ready.  Yesterday was a pretty dry day, but I have higher expectations for today.

The Hotline to Bus Conversion Magazines' Global Headquarters once again (657) 221-0432

Remember the deal I promised yesterday...

For every order I take over the phone today and Sunday, I will take one shot of Jack Daniels to celebrate each new or renewed subscription order.  I stopped by the liquor store the day before last and picked up 100 cases of the stuff.  I would like send a bottle to every one of you reading this, but unfortunately I won’t have time today.  I think everyone of you out there should do the same thing, take a shot of JD for each subscription sold this weekend.  For each order I take today, I will add a note to this thread so you will know when to take your shot and say "CHEERS".  These next two days will be the most fun we ever had together. I am assuming by now, if you were low on Jack Daniels, you already ran out to your local liquor store and picked up a case.  Let the fun begin.

As soon as I hit the Post button I will be ready for our first call.  Let's see who the lucky new or renewing subscriber will be that will start the celebration today.

Everyone get ready!!

We just received an order from Tom in NC for a 3-Yr Standard Print Subscription Renewal and he decided to go with the E-Mag Upgrade too after reading about the benefits on the Forum.  He has a 91 Prevost that he purchased about two years ago and has been upgrading it to the new fabric and carpet colors.  For some reason he didn’t much care for the Mauve color it was original designed in.  He expects to retire next year and spend three months on the road seeing the country.  Who knows, he may even drive by your place.  He said he will work on writing a Cover/Centerfold feature story for BCM so everyone will know it is him when he drives by.

We just received a renewal order from Robert in NV for a 1 Year Standard Renewal.  Robert stopped his subscription a few years ago but has decided to try it again after reading the positive comments about it on the Forum.   Robert has a 1981 Eagle 10, that he has owned for 10 years and of those 10 years he spent 8 years converting it from scratch, including repowering the engine.  He said he never took the bus on a trip until it was completely finished.  Robert lives in NV, but he claims it get a bit warm there in the summer so he takes his coach to the Oregon Coast in the summers where it is a bit cooler.  However he said he may go to Ventura, CA this year for a chance.

We just received an early renewal from JC in British Columbia for 3-Yr E-Mag Subscription.  JC owns a 1977 MC-5C which he purchased five years ago.  It was originally a shuttle bus used in San Diego and was converted into a very well done conversion several years later with all Oak cabinets.  JC changed the gears from a 4:11 to 3:36 which dropped the RPM’s down significantly when traveling at 80 MPH on the ice roads in the winter in Canada.  He also changed the injectors and rebuilt the turbo to gain more power.

JC generally drives his bus from April through October and in the winter he loves tinkering on his bus to make improvements  He said he loves tinkering on it in the winter just as much as he loves driving it in the summer.  He wrote an article for the Sept 2009 issue of BCM called “Lost Again Found Again” about his previous bus a 1957 MCI Courier 96 and said he will write one about his MC-5C bus for all to share this summer.

We just secured a new subscription order from Daniel in TX for 3-Yr Standard Print Subscription with the E-Mag upgrade.  Daniel picked up a 1987 MCI-8 Crusader just 3 months ago.  It has 92.000 original miles on it and it was repainted in 1999, and is 50% stainless.  The bus was owned by a trucking company and the boss took it out on excursions.  Whenever he was done using it, it was put back in the shop and it was gone thru by his truck mechanics and the stainless was always polished to perfection.

Daniel plans to only do minor upgrades like the toilet, Granite counter tops and replace the TV’s with newer models.  He will be making his maiden voyage sometime in February.  Daniel raises 150 head of white tail deer on his ranch in Texas, so he always has a supply of jerky on hand for long road trips. Daniel said he will provide a Cover/Centerfold story about his bus sometime this year so all of us can see his shiny stainless steel sides.  Daniel said one of the reasons he subscribed to the magazine is because he gleaned so much information about buses from our Forum before he bought his that he felt he should contribute to its support so it will be there forever.  We thank Daniel for his support.

We just picked up a new Joe in FL who went with a 2-Yr Standard Print Subscription with the E-Mag add-on.  Joe frequently reads the Forum and picked up his first copy of BCM at the recent Arcadia Rally.  Joe purchased a 1954 Flxible about five years ago in CA and drove it home to FL and he had no problems at all.  Joe decided to do some minor renovations to better suit his own tastes and lifestyle. He has been working on it since he purchased it and still has about a year to bring it up to spec.  But he still travels while he works on it like many Bus Nuts do.

Joe likes to attend rallies and hang around people that know how to talk bus.  He promised me that his wife will write an article for the magazine for everyone to see.  To see Joe’s renovation project live, check out the video he put together on YouTube.

Good Morning again!  All phone line are open this morning for this last day of our Marathon, for me to personally take calls for new and renewal subscriptions at the holiday discount of 10% off.  The deadline for this offer officially ends at midnight tonight and will not be extended.  I will be manning the phone myself from now until 5:00 PM (PST) or until the phone stops ringing.

Everyone get your shot glasses ready because I expect the calls to come pouring in today as some Forum readers are probably procrastinating until the last minute.  The price of BCM will never be this low again as all of our costs continue to increase.  Printing for example costs about twice as much as it did ten years ago and continues to increase.

So if you are reading this thread and haven’t already ordered a subscription to Bus Conversion Magazine, but you do enjoy contributing and reading the Forum, please call in to sign up today.  It is the BCM subscriptions that make it possible for us to maintain the best Forum in the world for bus conversions provided for bus nuts by bus nuts.  At the very least, sign up for the E-Mag that you can read on your computer each month wherever you are or the Online edition that you can read when you are already logged in reading the form for as little as $22.50 per year.

I have to go now, I think I hear the phone starting to ring.  Our thanks to everyone who has called in already to support the magazine as well as the Forum.  If your call rolls over to Voice Mail, it means I am on the phone with another subscriber.  Please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as I can.  As long as you leave a message before midnight tonight, you will qualify for the 10% off discount.

Bruce from CT called today to renew his E-Mag subscription early.  Joe owns the same model bus I started with an MC-7 Combo.  The Combo buses had two sets of dual wheels in the rear and a rear side door where Greyhound used to ship engines, transmissions and other large heavy parts from one repair depot to another.  The rear seats were of course removed and there was a bulkhead between the passengers and the greasy parts.

Bruce’s bus was originally converted by a professional conversion company but it is now time for a makeover after several years of use.  Bruce is doing a lot of mechanical repairs and also replacing the flooring in the kitchen and bath and replaced the TV’s, like everyone seems to do as soon as they buy a used conversion.  He said he had to replace the genset wiring because it was all dried out and crispy, probably from the heat in the genset compartment.  Being an Electrical Engineer, Bruce had no problem replacing the wiring with a bit of help from Dick Wright of Wrico International.  Dick has been a great help to a lot of our subscribers.

But Bruce now has a problem.  He needs a new set of sneakers for his bus.  Not only that, but he needs 10 new sneakers not just 8 like most 40’ bus owners because of the double dualies under the Cargo hold.  At $500 to $600 a pop, that comes out to $5,000 to $6,000 total, more than the cost of my first house.  So if anyone knows a good source for either new or partially used tires off something like School Buses or Garbage trucks, please start a new thread so Bruce can get some ideas.  I suspect other Forum readers may also have to buy tires now and then too so this could benefit a lot of our readers. Bruce hears of great deals in CA, but nothing in CT where he lives.  Bruce has also agreed to send us a Cover/Centerfold article for BCM so you too can better understand Cargo buses.

Everyone take another shot of Jack Daniels with me.  1, 2, 3 Down the Hatch and shout “Hip Hip Hooray”!

The “Melvo” from Albuquerque just called and renewed his Standard Print Magazine for a year and chose the E-Mag add-on so he could view the additional content we started adding to the E-Mag this year.  Mel owns a 1978 MCI-8 he purchased about 10 years ago as a conversion that had been started, that the previous owner had given up on.  Mel felt he needed more horses so about seven years ago he took his bus to B&B Coachworks to have it repowered.  He said it made all of the difference in the world.  Now he can pass the 18-Wheelers going over passes.   Before the repower he had to wait in line in the bumpy Granny lane along with the truckers and breathe their exhaust.   He also bought an Inverter from Wrico International and it works great.  Melvo travels to Mexico and through the Midwest when he takes his bus out on the road.  He has started an article to send us to include in BCM about installing an air throttle which is his current project.

Scott from RI just called to start a new subscription to BCM.  Scott purchased a 2-Year E-Mag subscription to start out with.  He heard about the magazine on the Forum, somewhere, don’t know where.  Last September he purchased a 1959 4104 which he found locally which he thought was in pretty good condition.  After getting it home and looking it over more closely he discovered the ceiling had leaked and has been leaking for quite some time.  When he opened it up he found most of the walls around the bathroom and bedroom which were made out of particle board and covered with paneling were mostly rotted out and falling apart. So now he plans to renovate most of the bus in stages starting with the back bedroom and bathroom.   Mechanically he has already replaced two air bags and said he had a few air leaks which he intends to find and repair over time.

Because Scott is new to owing a bus, I suggested he purchase a copy of every Printed Back Issue we have in stock, which is over 135 (at this posting) to get ideas on how to renovate his bus and also because some of the older issues also have 4104’s in them which you don’t see as many in the more recent issues of BCM.  He is now considering that option.

Scott has a posted short video of his bus on YouTube which shows the beautiful murals on the sides, one of a 4104 coming out of a tunnel driving down the road.  Check it out at…

Jason from PA called to renew his Standard Print subscription for two more years.  Jason owns a 1981 MCI-9 and his bus was featured on the Cover of the July 2010 BCM with his article "The Making of a Dream".  Dig out your old copy to reminisce what you read just a few years ago.  As you will see, he did a great job with his bus.  Since then he has replaced 8V71 with an 8V71T to gain more horses to make it over those mountains in PA.  Jason puts about 5,000 miles on his coach each year and travels to SC for a week every year.   Jason owns his own company building custom cabinets.  To see his beautiful work check out the pictures of his bus in the July 2010 issue.

Kevin from IN called to renew his 2-Year Standard Print subscription and also added the E-Mag upgrade.  He liked the idea of being able to click on any picture in the magazine and being able to see it open up full size on his computer in a higher resolution than possible in the magazine.  Kevin owns one motorhome and two buses.  He recently picked up a 2002 38-foot Fleetwood Discovery with only 75,000 miles on it.  My first motorhome was a 1986 Discovery and it was a nice riding motorhome with a great layout with a jog in the back through the bathroom, so you could not see directly into the bedroom.

Kevin also bought a 1982 Eagle Model 10 some time ago and uses it on a simi-regular basis.  About a year and a half ago he picked up a 1991 Eagle Model 15 with only 50,000 original miles on it. It needs some work but it doesn’t have any rust, so he won’t have to do any serious frame repair on it.  He is planning on renovating it from scratch to design a layout more up to date and to his liking while he uses his Model 10.  When he completes his Model 15, he will put the Model 10 up for sale.

He plans to put about a 15 foot slide in it with a 30 inch depth in the Model 15.  Kevin plans to take his bus to the races quite frequently because that is what you do if you live in that area.  He plans to retire in September so he can devote more time to building his bus so he can hit the super slab as soon as possible. He said he will write an article for BCM about how to build a slide in a Model 15 Eagle.  So be watching for future issues if you are considering this yourself.

Everyone take another shot of Jack Daniels with me.  1, 2, 3 Down the Hatch and shout “Hip Hip Hooray”!
