Bought some house batteries
« on: November 08, 2008, 06:40:36 PM »
I just bought three AGM batteries out of a UPS system to use for house batteries.  In theory they have not been discharged and just been on a float charge weighting to come to the rescue.  At $85. each they were not a give away, but a lot cheaper than brand new.  Hopefully, they will make me proud.

I also bought seven of that same battery.  They are very heavy at 100 lbs each with no handles.  I'm not sure what I will do with the seventh one, but I got a better price for the lot than just buying six.

I never got around to installing them for this summer's trips, but I did get the cables for them.  They will be installed before I head out again next year.  I would like to hear how they work out for you.

My golf cart battery terminals are corroding like crazy, but the water level has been good every time I check them.

Is it that you have room for six or are using 24 volts?  I guess that will give you heavy duty capacity.  Hopefully the three will be more than enough for our use.  The present batteries are wet cells so require easy access and are taking up some good real estate.  The plan is to put these out of the way.

I am using 24 volts with a Vanner for the few things that are 12 volt.  Yes, I am using all six batteries.

Basically I am creating three parallel strings of batteries.  I am using equal length cables this time as recommended by posters here.
