6V92 Out of Frame Overhaul MC-12
« on: February 24, 2018, 07:10:56 PM »
Hi Everyone

Months of reading and first post

I have 6V92 Turbo DDEC III that I will be pulling from my MC-12 for a complete overhaul (Spun Main)
Does anyone have a copy of the 92 Series Parts Manual and could look up the part number for the DD Cyl kit
I have a copy of the engine build sheet and CONN ROD/ PSTN is #452, I have a line on a NOS cyl kit and just want to verify the sellers part numbers. Serial 06FF016525 Model 80677K28

Planning on replacing Piston, Crown, Sleeve, Rings, Main Bearings, Rod Bearings, Crank, All Gaskets...

Should I be looking at replacing Cam Gears, Cam Bearings, Cam Shaft or Other Items ???

Injectors and head are being sent out for bench testing.

1992 engine rebuilt by DD Reliabilt  in 2002, mileage is a big mystery as the bus has been mileage exempt for the DMV and the hub meter says 99,000 yeah ok.

Cheers Scott

23524337 is the standard size .95 ports  15:1 compression you need to pull one of yours, those come in oversize too the over size will be stamped .001 to .020 on the block. They come in different port heights and compression ratios you need to match what you have now since it is a reliblit engine.Have the block lined bored also or it will happen again

Thanks Luvrbus, I do have a extra block from a 6v92 mech I picked up from a local drilling company. Milage is also unknown so will have to put the blocks side by side and pick the best. I have heard line boring can be upwards of $1000, machine shop didnt want to give a approx till thy had it on the bench.

The NOS cyl kit for sale is a #23524343 17-1 comp Turbo/AC... Where do I find out the comp ratio for my engine.

cheers Scott

My 6V92 has all its original specifications on two stickers on the valve covers  -  one sticker has the basic engine specs (horsepower, idle speeds, maximum fuel flow, valve settings, etc.), and the other lists all the engine's options and how it was built at the factory.   Do you still have them?   If not, can MTU give the info to you?

You probably have 17:1 I just pulled up the numbers from the engine and it came back 15:1, you don't see those often any more to damn hard to start in cool weather ,you can measure the dome depth and tell what they are

Iceni John

The ratings on the valve cover have been removed by time or cleaner. I did get the spec build sheet from a DD dealer which gives all the spec build numbers PISTON is #452. Nothing noted about comp ratios.
Im heading down to my fire department apparatus division tomorrow and see if thy have a hard copy of the 92 series parts manual. We only have 1 engine left with a 92 series and its a spare unit till it goes in a few months.

You have a CA smog engine .452 pistons options are 17:!, .85 port ht,20 degree angle and with wide gap fire rings, the 452 on the rods threw me I did read pistons  .I ran it again and it is still popping up 15:1something weird because that is not a 452 piston option, or it could be my cheap software (free). Anyways with the DDEC 111 without reprogramming you are pretty much stuck with the 452 option a CA smog engine I am not a big fan of .85 ports

good luck
