What is this on my engine? (pics)

What is this thing on my engine? It's under the crank shaft pulley. It looks like it's connected to the engine oil system?

I looked all through the manual and can't find it...

That is a catch can for your air box drains.

Does it have a location to drain it, other than that hex? Doesn't look like it has been removed for a long time.

The hex on mine is where you drain it, yours might be full.

Take a huge pipe wrench to that hex and unscrew it and drain it every so often. That’s what I do with mine. You’ll get messy tho.

     There's a company that makes "quick drain" plugs for oil pans -- I think Fumoto or something like that.  I wonder if they have one that fits the thread and plug size for this.  It would make it easier to be neat.

Fumoto and EZ Oil Drain Valve both make valves in almost every imaginable thread, so probably something's going to fit that slobber can.   I have a Fumoto on my engine, and two EZ valves for my hydraulic system, all in 1/2" MPT, and they seem just fine.   So far, so good.

Fixing the probplem is another way of stopping the pumping of oil out the drain tubes. Mine was blower seals . After fix, no more leakey. Of course at the price/cost of fix, you could buy a tanker of oil.

Now that I know what it is, I'll definitely keep an eye on it! Piece by piece I'm learning all the things the manual didn't tell me.

One of these days I need to make it to a rally and get ALL my bus questions answered. ☺

Keep the idle time to minimum and use a good 40w oil and the can won't fill as fast.if the engine is healthy
