Meant to send this picture. Betting it comes out upside down. Actually just found it in the owners manual. I think it is what they call an optional cold weather starting cup. I tightened the bolt, cut off the Zip tie, don't plan to move back to Alaska, so can put that in the  "forgetaboutit" category.

Nope that is a pulse generator for the tach that drives off the camshaft,starting fluid would only just clean the grease off it

Which should have two wires coming out of the top. Hmmm maybe your tach is now being driven off of the main alternator signal terminal.

Does your tach look like mine (the old one on the right)..



Note my bus has a failed partially done panel upgrade, which was done by a previous, previous owner.
