I have a 1983 MC-9 engine and trans (6v92 w/ Fuller 11605) that I recently put into my MC-2. The problem is the clutch adjustment. The air assist is similar to the setup on a MC-5 but is different,(I have a 5 manual). The only MC-9 manual I have found is dated 1989 and shows no air assist. Is there an earlier manual for the MC-9 ?? What year is the manual that BCM sells for the MC-9 ??
Ok, so the problem is this. You need the air assist and the lever it connects to to be in a straight line when clutch fully engaged. I have tried this, and a little above and below a straight alignment. No matter where I put it, after depressing the clutch it doesn't return fully to its starting position thus leaving it in contact with the TO bearing. The short lever with the bolt for adjusting the freeplay is pushed back by the pressure plate springs only to that point. And there is an annoying "hitch" (like going over center) when beginning to depress the clutch.
(Just for the record I have gone thru all the bushings, connections, and heim joints...no slop.)( even replaced the crosshaft and its bushings)
Increasing or decreasing the air pressure via the regulator hasn't helped matters. I have added a spring for return but it makes the clutch that much harder to depress. Increasing air pressure to combat this doesn't help as the spring is then fighting the increased air pressure. What's a fella to do ? I know..."get an automatic". I don't want to lose the TO bearing and I would like a smooth clutch.
I think it was Brian Evans who maybe had similar problems with his MC-5 and I think that after many years he gave up on it and was going to get an automatic, but I couldn't find that post again. Well, if anyone can shed a little light on this that would be greatly appreciated.....Brian R.
