Air brake educational information
« on: November 09, 2008, 01:40:56 PM »
There have been questions on some of the boards about basic should know air brake information. I know at one time someone had some wonderful educational material on air brakes. I have looked but can not find it again. Someone like Bendix, Haldex, Midland had it. The links below are not the detail I am trying to find again. The first and last one will give the reasons, I would like the information available to all.
Thank you for any help.

Craig,

I hope you pass that info along if you get it.  There was a class on airbrakes a while ago by Bendix and it cost dearly, as I recall.  I think somebody here conducts seminars for a profit at various bus Knut gatherings so I can easily imagine a "rice bowel" issue.  I tried some of Bendix sites but found I was unable to crack the functioning of various valves by their symbol.  Do you know where there is a legend of the symbols used in the airbrake world?

Good luck,

John

This link has a 117 page catalogue of air brake parts. Good pictures to ID your parts.

http://www.meritorhvs.com/MeritorHVS_Documents/100d1.pdf

Arvin meritor: makes many more truck parts then just air brakes, worth looking them up.

 http://www.meritorhvs.com/LODsearch.aspx?keyword=Air+Brake+Control+Valves&category_id=3&product_id=37&publication=All&page=1

Meritor wabco: look like they have stuff on air disc brakes. A google search turned up the above info.

I found this within my with one of my previous post sites. I think this might be worth looking at. I am going to try and order it, they say $25.00 for non members. They call it the industry standard for driver training.

http://cvsa.stores.yahoo.net/pracairinhan.html

This next link is practical air brake adjustment also $25.00 for non members.

This is a sample air brake quiz. Click on the computer image to start it, not the pricing link. I was really surprised at my score not what I thought it would be!!!!!

The above is the type of info I was looking for. I still have not found the internet site that has about a hundred pages of free down load. I believe it is just as good.

John,

Great time for putting in a pad/pit, can I use it?  ;D

All the brake links posted should get you more than enough information and guidance. Good reading for cold winter days/nights.

Paul
