Very sorry to hear of Libby's setback, but this is how these things go. Good side is that 'arresting' doesn't typically cause additional damage. Just something they deal with.
It is clearly an indication of a very sick person.
If Libby is alert enough to say no, she may enjoy listening to quiet music. An Ipod or MP3 player will hold days of music...and if she enjoyed some specific artists prior to her illness, this can be a mood enhancer. May not be for some. She'll have to tell you. Keep it turned down low if you try music.
Libby should be frequently repositioned as long as no contraindications to turning exist. That will help her respers if she can tolerate lying on either side.
All nurses know these things, but they get so busy that the simple things are just skipped. It almost takes two people to turn an ICU patient, but it's a simple, valuable therapy.
As I said the othe day, Terri had a nephrectomy in Dec. She had excellent technical care, but the little things like getting out of bed and walking, shutting off a pump alarm, getting drinks would have gone without if I had not stayed with her and done these things.
Libby is in a different situation in ICU/CCU. Typically family will not be allowed to remain in the room for long. However, if you have an RN in the family that's familiar with ICU level care, it never hurts to have them look in on Libby and let you know what they think.
Thinking about you and Libby! JR and Terri

When my Dad did a two week stint at the Cleveland Clinic, we brought the nurses that regularly took care of him little gifts..nothing big, just something to let them know they were appreciated (bribe is such an ugly word). We also always had a box of candy in dads room. Once word got around that it was there and avail to everyone, we had a steady stream of nurses in and out all day looking for something sweet. Gave us a good opportunity to get to know them and as a result they took a genuine interest in my Dads care. But knowing how sweet Cody can be, just his presence may be enough of a gift...

You are a breath of fresh air. I'm am so happy you are willing to share. Times like this some of us, such as myself learn and mature from people like yourself. Thinking of you guys. I spend over a month in a Saginaw (air lifted from up state) hospital and the care was second to none, I was very happy to be in that part of the country before they transfered us home.

I didn't go to see libby today but did get an update from her nurse over the phone, she said that libby is stable and resting, she is still very weak, she had some cardiac distress during the night but she wouldn't tell me anymore, only that her doctor would be meeting with me and giving me more details on that. She will continue to be in intensive care for the next several days and if she responds she may possibly be sent to critical care for a while before being moved to a regular bed, this is all dependant on how or if she responds, I asked what the procedure is and thats what they said. Her sister is going to spend some time with her today and it's storming here so I took a break from the drive. I'm an old guy and the drive kinda pooes me out doing it everyday, but anyway, thats all I could find out for now.

Thank you for the update.
It good to hear that her sister is there. Knowing it always tired for us old folk to drive long distance every day and not even talking about cold & slippery driving condition which make matter worse.
JR advice is very helpful.

Cody,
As I mentioned in the Bus Garage chat room the other night, both you and Libby are in the thoughts and prayers of Natasha and I. If we were closer I know we'd be offering even more.
As tough as this is for you, please take care of yourself. If you need help, please ask. I'm sure that someone will be there to help you. I only wish that we were closer so we could help if you need it.

As someone else has mentioned, I can't help but wonder if you showed up with your bus if they wouldn't be compelled to allow you parking priveleges either on the grounds or nearby. I'm sure you have thought of this, but I haven't seen any further mention of it. Our thoughts are with you both. Hundreds of your friends here are following your story.

Just a quick update, they have a pc here in the ICU vistors lounge, great isn't it. Libby is very weak but fighting, they tell me that she has a chance if she continues to fight. They also said that she won't be leaving intensive care any time in the near future, she is totally dependant on the tubes and hookups and she will be here for at the minimum a week and most probably several weeks as long as she is willing to fight. If in time she gains some strength back she may be moved to critical care and then possibly work her way back home, I think life may have changed for us but it's still early in this battle to know yet. The main thing is that she is fighting to stay alive and so far is doing it.

Cody,
I hope all things work out for you guys, none of us mortals can understand the whole picture. I have prayed for both of you, and I have to admit that since I don't do that all that often, the man upstairs just may listen since he is not used to hearing from me LOL.
Keep up with your good attitude man, hopefully it will pay off.
