MCI 9 Door Latch
« on: March 20, 2009, 06:19:04 AM »
With the help of great Friends and good Whiskey my door latch project is almost done.
I just have to install the inside door panel when it stops snowing (first day of spring).

I couldn’t add my picture’s to Jacks post = http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=544.0
Here they are.

Ed,

Looks good!

What lock mechinism did you end up using?

New or salvaged?

Looks Great ED!!!!!

I notice that you have attempted to keep the door vent.  Are you going to put a grate/screen in the wood panel for the air to draw out?

I had thought about it and then opted to blocked it off and foam the whole thing ( on JR advice, thanks JR)

I haven't decided on the inside pull handle either.

How are you gonna fasten it too?
It's all fun and games til someone gets hurt. ;)

Look like it came from the factory or OEM.

Thank you for sharing your photos.

Great job, I'm thinking of tackling mine later this year sometime if I can make more progress on other things first. The P.O of my bus put on a house type full handle (the long fancy scroll type about 8-10" long with the thumb button!) which he regretted and I now really need to replace it. It latches but no locking.

I'd be really interested in part numbers, vendors and prices if you don't mind sharing. Jack didn't list them in his write up did he?

I have to put a door lock on my MC8. I saw Jack put one on his.
Obviously, there are so many ways to do / put on a door lock.
!this looks really nice.

A. how hard is this to install?
B. Where do you get the lock mechanism? Any other tips on install. Is there a metal retaining plate it resides on?
C. Alternatives? or links.

Sorry. I know this topic has been brought up before but I am confused as to which way to go and helps if I can see how it works/gets installed. Not sure to do this, do a simple dead bolt, convert a rv lock, look for a marine lock, or I can just buy a bus lock from somewhere that fits a MCI8.
I know a door lock to lock people out will not be perfect, but all I am trying to be able to do lock the bus -- (hopefully its not THAT easy to break in)
with fairly easy install if that's even possible.
If I can avoid DAYS vs hours that would be ideal. A boat, truck stainless steel lock or ? anything that works!
I considered putting a round master lock hasp for security but looks kinda ugly and can put that on later if needed for extended "leave alone" periods possibly.
Not sure where to start. Pictures help a lot so - thanks for posting this. Looks great.
