Locator Map
« on: July 05, 2006, 05:37:02 PM »
I have been playing around for several weeks trying to come up with a location map to identify where the various members are located thruout the country. Many members have requested at various times information as to wherher someone is in their location that can help or answer a question.

Eventually this will probably be part of the MAK board, but currently it is not, even though it is identified as MAC Bus Nuts. It is open to any nut, regardless of affiliation with any board. Welcome one and all.

I have not developed any details about registration, but it is very simple. You can include as much information as you desire but it will require your name and zip code to enter a location. A city, State and phone number would really make it useful. Remember you do not even have to be a member of MAK or any other board to register.

A few board members have been asked to register so that I could get an idea of how it will look. If we get several hundred it will probably be a problem, but at least we are trying.

Please register and see how it comes out. You can always remove your information if you so desire.

It make a little longer to load the first time, so wait it out.

I would like to see more bus nuts listed on the frapper map. I know there are more thanjust four located in Florida and more than what appear in Ca. I think every state has some but there so many states without any listed.

Everyone should be aware that this map is not officially part of the MAK board yet. The other moderators approved me posting it, but it is still simply a trial to see what the response will be.

Ron, as soon as it gets finalized, I feel certain Phil will get a button for us to click.

Ace, I agree with you and that is why we went ahead and posted it. We see posts nearly every day of someone wanting information regarding help or directions for various areas of the country. With over 700 members of this board, i am certain there are many more in Florida. Those first postings were to a list of emails that Dallas sent out to see how the posts would look. I am hoping this information gets to some of the other boards and really make it a nationwide map, regardless of the board that the person monitors. Maybe some of you nuts can post the link on other boards? Please!

I am happy to see that we do have several new listings already from around the country. Thank you guys and gals for helping to make this another success in the MAK board.

Richard

I just noted a small problem. If two people enter the same exact zip code, the balloons will be exactly on top of each other, and one will not be visible. Jack Conrad is a good example.

I would love to have access my map to others around me.  Great idea!

To avoid the problem of locators being placed on top of each other, perhaps as a person zooms in they could separate on the scale changes.  It would be like zoom on a GPS.

I have heard it said, "life comes at you fast".  I didn't know it would be in the shape of a bus  :-)

FYI, there's also a Frapper Map for GMC Bus owners, IIRC, Doug Wotrig (Tekebird) started it.

When you zoom in on the map the symbols will separate if the person did an advanced location. ;)

Might be difficult to separate myself and Jerry Jenkinson, We not only share the same zip code, we share the same addess(Jerry lives in a cabin we have at our place).  Jack

Jack, you might want to try going in and moving your 's and Jerry's balloon apart some.
I noticed when I entered mine that as I zoomed in the balloon was at least 5 miles from my actual street location. If you moved them apart in different directions it might let both of them show. I sure would not want you covered up!

It appears that the map has some problem recognizing City and State. If you would register using your zip code I believe this would solve the problem. The zip code will automatically find the correct city and state and enter it. (I believe) At least it did when I tried it. We are still learning about this thing but we are happy to see so many registering.

If anyone is having problems registering or anything else, please let me know.

When I enter my town, Lakeside, Ca. 92040, it automatically changes the state to Florida.  Kind of a long way aaway.  I tried the advanced setting, and it still changed it. ONly if I lie about where I live - to another nearby city, does it corrrectly identify it.

I hope they fix the problem, I just sent them an email.

I contacted The map keeper and they said not to use the save in advanced location. It will automatically save the wrong place. They were ablle to change mine to the correct location. They are working on this problem. If you continue to have problems let them know. They wre quick to correct mine. :o ::) :o
