Me too.  I'll get some more tomorrow.  They send a "validation" email so that sorta limits the mischief.

Ok guys he is in 4th place right now. He's one vote from being in 3rd and 3 from being in 2nd!

We can do it but it takes votes!

Just to keep it up on the list, and make it easy, here's the direct link again:

http://www.84silver.com/contest_browse_view.php?entry_id=MjEy

If any of you are active members of any other groups, feel free to post this information there. This is the only board I use.

I've also sent a message to a friend back home who is a teacher in the school and asked her to make sure everyone in the school votes.

I just added 3 more votes from 3 other emails I have. One from Susan and 2 from myself. Counting the one previous vote back when it first started,, that makes a total of 4.
Who can match that?  :P
Sounds like a challenge to me! :)

I just got a letter from the mayor of Baggs. They had removed Kale's Mother's letter from their website, so I asked them to put it back up till the contest is over. She restored it to the following location:

That letter is pretty cool Craig.

I've given Kale all of my 8 votes and Cat has given him just about as many.

I just wanted to let everyone know that this is the last week to vote on Kale's design. Currently, he's in 4th place with 302 votes, and in my opinion, he's still a condender when you consider design, creativity and personal effort. It looks like there's little chance we can get him into first place, but if we can keep him in the top 10, he still has a chance at winning the grand prize as the final selection is made by a panel of judges. Even if he doesn't win the grand prize, I think he still will get a calculator for himself, as long as we keep him in the top 10.

So, for those of you who still wish to vote, you have until Friday.

Here's the direct link:  http://www.84silver.com/contest_browse_view.php?entry_id=MjEy

Go Kale!!

Well, it's not looking good. Today is the last day and Kale has fallen to 10th place.  If he doesn't stay in the top 10, he won't have a chance of winning anything.

I hate to see the lack of concern shown by the members of this board and the BNO board.

We have a lot of members here, 984 at this time, and I'll bet that fewer than 50 have bothered to see a small town lad hit the top.

There are hundereds here who are members just so they can get something FREE, information. But ask them to  give a little bit back, and damn, it! It's just too much work and I don't care about him and I've got better things to do.

Maybe as a moderator I shouldn't say this, but, If you ever need help from me, you can wait as long as Kyle has been waiting for your vote.

Between Cat and I we have over 30 email addresses and have used everyone of them to vote for Kyle. That makes a pretty good percentage of the votes he has.

Now get off your collective behinds and DO SOMETHING!

Dallas,

I don't want this topic to turn into a pissin contest. It's not worth it.

I started this because I was touched by the letter his mother posted back home on the town's website. I know what it's like to grow up in a small community where the school is controlled by unknown persons 80 miles away, and there's often no regard for local needs. I also know how hard life can be there if you are not part of the "in crowd". I don't know whether Kale is part of that crowd or not, but if he's entering contests to win state of the art calculators, I bet I can guess correctly  ::)

Just as bus converting is an individual hobby, so is the desire to help others, and I understand that many folks here just aren't touched by things like this as I am. That doesn't mean they don't care or don't have passion about some other cause. I knew when I started this topic that we wouldn't get everyone to vote. That's ok with me. I was very touched by the response it did get. I was looking at the stats the other day, and this topic was one of the most read and replied to topics on the board. And, if I'm not mistaken, there wasn't one single negative response. I think that's pretty good.

I just want to offer a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who did vote. I will try to follow up on the results of the contest, and will let everyone know what the final outcome is.

And just as an FYI, Kale's entry has been knocked out of the top 10.

While reading the news this morning, I came across this quote. I found it interesting it should appear today, after my earlier posts on this thread....

You may have heard that a 16 year old girl was shot and killed this week in a small Colorado school by an intruder. In article in USA Today http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-09-29-colorado_x.htm offers up this quote by the spokesperson for the family of young girl who was killed...

"In memory of Emily we would like everyone to go out and do random acts of kindness, random acts of love to your friends or your neighbors or your fellow students because there is no way to make sense of this," Gonzalez said. "It's what Emily would have wanted."

Well, I've used my five email addresses already. I could probably get more votes in by getting more addresses, but I'm afraid the frontrunners will just ratchet up the votes in lockstep by calling on their bigger pool of voters than Kale has.

With the contest rules, how in the world could a kid from the least-populous state ever have a chance of winning this? It frustrates me that these kids' designs are subject to a popularity contest. The top 10 will just show that they are the best self-promoters, or have called upon friends and family to do their promoting for them.

I say we just all Paypal in a few bucks each and buy Kale a nice calculator. That would be a random act of kindness. And at least I could feel like I did something other than with futility partipate in the American Idol version of HP's marketing blitz (glitz) to schools.

I'm not saying your idea to vote for Kale nor your efforts to promote his design are flawed, Craig. I'm just frustrated at the system.

Craig, I'm sorry if I came on too strong, and I apologise. To you. Not to anyone else.

During the upcoming rally in Timmonsville we are planning on having a swap meet to get rid of a bunch of stuff that needs new owners.

I am going to set up a table that is just for Kyle and I'll be puting stuff on it that will be for sale to whoever wants it. There will be no prices, no refunds and no recrimminations. This is for Kyle and his school.

The payment method will be a jar on the table to put in whatever anyone thinks something is worth. If it's more cash than a person has, We can make sure there is an ATM available. If anyone still wants a different method, Paypal is always available and we'll have at least one computer on line.

All of these proceeds I plan on sending to you, so that you can do with it what you think is best.

Also, I have a TI-81 that isn't the latest and greatest, but could be a good learning model I will contribute if it's needed.
