Demand for MCI 9 Parts?
« on: August 08, 2006, 05:53:40 PM »
I have been approached by the owner of an MCI 9 bus who is not prepared to convert the bus or repair it. The bus lacks a powerplant and transmission but the remainder of the bus is in good shape.  I told the owner that I would ask about the demand for parts to help him make the decision on selling the entire bus or selling the parts.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks

Grant

What year, what part of the continent is it sitting on, what drivetrain did it have in it before, and which steering is in it?

Why was the drivetrain pulled out?

Drivetrains are easy to come by, I'd be a little suspicious until more of the story is known.

I've had a couple of MC-9s and noticed that there just isn't much demand for parts other than and engine and tranny. You may find someone to buy the a/c compressor if it can be shown to be in good shape. I've known a guy who would pull motors, trannys, alternators, etc. then sell the shell to a salvage yard. Tires and aluminum wheels might be easily sold if in good shape and sometimes someone is looking for MC-9 seats--put them on Ebay. Hope this helps.

Bus Warrior and Darren are both right but depends on where, when & what ? Sometimes there is someone needing something other than the normal items already mentioned (body parts, rear end, glass, etc.) Just have to post whats there and whats not & where it's located ! Probably not worth a lot unless in super nice shape minus the drive train! Just my opinion, For what it's worth! BK  ;D

More info on the bus, 1983 6v92 with the HT740 package. Bus is a west coast unit without any rust. Bus has a one piece door and the coach is intact. The bus was used in charter and the new owner just bit off more than he could chew. He really never got the full bug like the rest of us ;D

Sounds like several of you have tried to part a 9 with little success.

Thanks for the feedback.

I know where there is an 8V71/HT740 tranny, but that's a continent away!

That bus has the right steering in it.

If the rest of it is good, better a busnut get it and put in a driveline,

At most a couple of parts will be sellable and then the rest will be scrap.

Maybe the door, a panel or two for accident damage, and then that's it.

I'd recommend trying to get rid of it as a chassis.

How much?
