I have serious 8V-71 problems in my Prevost. Do you guys have any recomendations of a shop or shops in the Columbia, Florence or Charleston, SC areas that do 8V71 rebuilds or swaps? Also, any suggestion where to buy a good rebuilt? Of course, cost and quaility are both issues. Thanks

Yeah, Bryce, He's about 65 miles from me.

There is one place I know of in Charleston

Bible Belt Bus Barn
1080 Morrison Dr, Charleston, SC 29403
Phone (843) 723-0733

It's right on Spur 52.

In Orangeburg there is Larry's

Larry's Truck Repair
5660 North Rd, Orangeburg, SC 29118
Phone (803) 534-8257
They use to do Detroit 2 cycle engines. I don't know about now.

General Diesel in North Charleston is a Detroit Dealer:

General Diesel Inc
4 Braswell St, North Charleston, SC 29405
Phone (843) 577-6881

In Florence where I am, Is one of the best shops around for 2 stroke Detroits:

Diesel Specialist
2204 E National Cemetery Rd, Florence, SC 29506
Phone (843) 667-1500

I've never had them do any work for me but I have bought parts and pieces. They are very knowledgeable and have a good reputation around here.

If nothing else, I can come down and see how bad the problem is and possibly repair it for you.

Click on my name and email me.

I wish I could be of more help.

Dallas that's probably them, I don't recall much just that they had a sales lot, repair shop, and towing if I remember right it was a couple of brothers who were gospel music singer that owned it!  And yes now that I remember I believe they had charter buses too!  My uncle bought a couple Eagles form them way back I just remember going with him to bring 'em home and while he was in the office making the deal I was out scoping out the shop and tow truck! Yes please do keep us posted  ??? ! We regret that you have had trouble  :'( . But hey at least you are in an area close to our very own, and very capable Hero/Mooerator Dallas (just don't ask exactly what he's capable of and we won't have to imagine it ourselves LOL!  ;D) and also not too far from some repitable repair facillities also ! Hey in all honesty if there's anything at all any of us can do to be of help please don't hesitate to ask ! Anything at all ! Just ask and we'll send Dallas running! (LOL ! I knew you'd like that 1 Dallas !) But no mater what the decision & outcome turn out to be please let us know, that way others who might end up in the same situation as you're in will have a clue what to do or who to turn to !  BK  ;D

I talked with the fella today and he is sending a couple of mechanics down to look at the damage.
From his description and from what Luke has told him, it looks like there may be a piston and liner or two that have gone AWOL.
At this moment, I'm looking for a shop or warehouse to rent so that I can put my bus in it to work in the winter. Everything I've found is big enough for 3 or 4 coachs so he may be bringing it up here.

Maybe I'll bring others in to work on too!

End of update!

I want to say thanks to everyone who has offered help!  I look forward to meeting folks from this board.  I guess I have been pretty lucky to have driven my bus all over America, over the last three years, with no real problems up to now.

I will keep you all posted on my repair progress, which I hope will get started next week.

As bad as this recent experance has been the support from the Board has made it more tolerable.

Thanks - Paul

Dallas I'll rent ya a shop & a  bus company too ! Shoot what am I saying gimmie 10 mins. to talk to dad & we'll sell you a bus company, and still rent you a shop! LOL !

Paul, glad we could be of assitance even if it was merely moral support ! But as I said before, you are in a relatively good area to locate some reliable service ! Not to mention soooo close to our very own and very capable Dallas (capable of what we'll not say at the moment, as not to implicate or incriminate anyone ! LOL !). We're just glad you were able to get some assistance, and an idea of what may have happened. Welcome to the best bus board there is, and good luck/best wishes on the repairs !  BK  ;D
