Question for Nick Badame's 5 A/C's

Nick- I have 3-13,500btu/hr Coleman roof tops that are not ducted (regular hang down).  I have been in 107 degree max and did turn on all three A/C's-when I looked back my wife had a sweater on.

My question for you is-with 5 Penguins (I assume they are 15,000btu's each?), have you ever had to have all five on at once-or is it more for redundancy?  Thanks, TomC

Hi Tom,

Both redundency and creature comfort.

Just think about the entertainer industry. If one of their fleet Prevo's had only two or three roof wharts, and

one or two broke down, do you think the they can justify sending the renters another coach for an A/C problem?

The last Prevo we had at the shop in August had [2] power tech 17 KW generators onboard.. And also housed

[2] 30,000 btu home type A/C systems. That's 5 tons!

Secondly, the entertainer coaches also usually sleep 12 to 14 humans. A 12 bunk coach is very common.

Me, I have 30,000 btu's total on the house side and the factory 11 ton OTR system that works fantastic.

Remember people produce heat too. So you really do need less AC to cool 2-4 people vs an entertainer load of 15-30. Figure maybe 500 btu/head for drinking and chatting. Half that if they're sleeping. Double that if they're dancing in the aisles.

Of course, in cold weather it works the other way....you need less heat to keep larger numbers of people warm.
