Where to find things like standard MCI bus windows
« on: December 08, 2010, 06:52:08 AM »
MCI102A3.

I want to replace my glass windows with Lexan windows.

I wouldn't mind having some RV slider windows in there, but not ready to pay for the expense just yet.

It seems to me there must be people pulling old Lexan windows out of their MCIs to put in RV windows, but then where do these windows go?  Because I'd like to buy some and make both of us happy...   :)

Side windows were always glass. Go to a glass shop and they'll cut you some. Some glass shop keep some in stock for buses, especially a common bus like the 102A3.

the side windows in my 5C (a little older than yours) are laminated safety glass like current auto windshields.  Not tempered glass.  Lexan is an iffy choice for windows since it scratches and hazes really easily.  There are versions of Lexan that have some coating that makes them more scratch resistant.  Lexan is really easy to work with, I make race car windshields out of it, I use my wood bandsaw and regular drills.  Other types of plastic need a lot more care, special saws and drills or they crack like crazy.

Contact Doug1968. He pulled some out of his 102A3 and might still have the complete unit. He's in Vancouver. WA if that helps.

I am aware that lexan isn't as clear as glass, but it doesn't break as easily, and I need to replace windows that I'm not really using as views anyways.

I suppose I could just go to a plastic shop and have some lexan cut to fit.

I'll check with Doug1968, thanks for the tip!  :)

Lexan has two problems, it isn't designed for use in direct sunlight and it moves so much with temp changes that it is very difficult to keep sealed.

Because it is so tough I was once going to use it to replace plexiglas aircraft side windows and found out about the sunlight thing.
