I live out also with a long drive (only 1/8 mile) with 3 hills on it. PITA in winter :needs grading rest of the year.plus bush hog for cutting the grass/brush away from house lawn area. I always had room and lived out of town. Kids grew up in the country and now all have places in the country:must be a way of life.Bus sure stays cleaner inside plugged in and ready to go.So best wishes for you and your family and Bus.   Bob.

Rick...good luck on the property, it sounds great ! It is great to have space
to work on things inside in the cold/rain. That last snow was a challenge here.
This is a picture of the skid steer after the 8:00 AM plowing. It sat outside for 4 hours
when I took this, had to plow three times that weekend, 45 gals. of diesel.

Grew up a farm kid and have always lived in the country until the last 10 years. It has it's advantages for sure but there never seemed to be enough time to keep up with mowing etc that came along with the territory. Luckily having the farm equipment for the tasks of moving snow and mowing etc was nice. Now I live on a snow route in a small town and I can't say that I would want to move back. Seven blocks to my business is a lot nicer commute than the 20 miles one way I used to do.
Seven Heaven.... I pray a lot every time I head down the road!!

Yahooooo!
I know how ya feel it's an awesome feeling knowing you have a place indoors and close to the house to work on the bus(es)!

Pictures....................
Don't forget Craig has a backhoe for sale ;) it'd be handy for snow removal and plenty of other chores in the country! (even some of them to do with the bus! *pit* )

I'm jealous because I really want to move some place further out where I can build a large bus garage/shop.  I can't sell my home today and probably won't be able to for several more years, if ever.

We talked about this on the phone earlier and it sounds like a great option for your family and your bus.  As far as snow removal, see if you can contract with someone for the year no matter how much it snows.  You win if it snows a lot, but you also win with a stable price for the service.

Rick,
Congratulations, where is it located?

Brian,
We just sold our house by owner and got more than the going rate in our neighborhood. It wasn't as much as if we had sold a couple of years ago, but you won't pay as much as you would have for the place you want to buy either.

Congrats Rick,

A man NEEDS his shop

My wife says "if I hadn't married her that there would just be a Giant shop on our property, no house."

Now that's not true, I would have still built the Grill Shack.... ;D

I've thought about that, but if a realtor can't sell my house, could I do any better?  My one attempt to sell was summer of 2008.  I just had the house appraised for a refi and a sale would be difficult in any case right now.  (Refi on hold for now.)  Doesn't not having an MLS listing greatly decrease who knows the house is for sale.  I'm a little leery these days about even moving further from my job as my commute is bad enough already when it snows.  The price of gas is also going to keep going up.

Congrats on selling without a realtor commission involved!

Brian,
Ours was listed on the MLS with "direct by owner" it was about $700 for a one year listing. And I did have to pay a commission to the buyers realtor (2.5%) For the market conditions I think we did alright. I saved as much on the lot we bought as I felt like I was losing on the home sale, plus I'll save a bunch constructing the new house (and SHOP) myself.

Rick -

Congrats on the new property purchase!  Isn't it nice when a plan comes together?

BTW, did anybody else besides me happen to notice that the bus with the plow on the front of it was actually an ETB?  Couldn't tell from the pic which transit agency owned it, tho. . .

Paul,

Its about 5 miles northwest of Stillwater on Big Carnelian lake. We will have to have a bus get together in the spring because Lord knows we have room for y'all now!

Thanks for all the kind words regarding our move.

Merry CHRISTmas to all you busnuts from a snowy, snowy Minnesota morning...

We are supposed to have the mother of all snowstorms around New Years and Belfert's gonna miss it. I'm sure he'll be all broken up about it!

Very nice! Does the big part of the shop have a door in the end or just the side?

I could predict the weather a week out about as well as a weatherman with a weather rock!

I'm hoping we don't get a huge snow on Jan 1 as I might have to drive through the remains a few days later plus I would have to clear my driveway when I get home.
