Dzus fastener springs....
«

All over my bus are these neat Dzus fasteners which keep things from rattlling and doors closed. But, it seems that somewhere through the years people must have felt that these items were Eternal and didn't need a dab of grease from time to time.....
My question is....do any of you MCI owners know where to buy the replacement "S" springs at a reasonable cost?
It might seem, by my question that I'm down to the 'nitty gritty' of my conversion, but that couldn't be farther from the truth...I've just arrived at the point where I'd prefer to keep all these compartments and doors closed....and quiet.
Thanks,
NCbob

Since they are also found all over aircraft, you might get lucky at
http://www.trade-a-plane.com
I've seen them listed on the fastener ads.

Bob how many do you need? I probably have about 300 or so of them BUT let me warn you that they come in different sizes! If your going to Timmonsville, I could bring them and let you see them or I could mail you one to see if it's your size! Either way, I could part with about a third of them!

Bob although I haven't bought any in years, most auto/body supply houses should have some! I need to get some more myself! I'll be checking with Fastenal in the AM! BK

These are standard on midget and sprint car race cars. Just find a race shop. They are about a buck a piece.

Hi Bob,
The dzus fasteners you need are alittle different then the recessed race car ones. [You need the pan headded ones]
I ordered them from MCI about 2 yrs ago and they have to be installed with a special tool.
The dzuz's are a buck or two but, the tool is about $100.....Go Figure!

whenI need to reinstall them I use a small (3/32" dia
) aluminum pop rivet.
Works good for me.
I put a small flat washer on the end of the pop rivet before I start to pop it for a better hold.

Dzus springs come in a couple different shapes, most are interchangeable. The bus ones are nothing special. I think Speedway Motors carries most of the shapes. You can probably see them in their online catalog. An aluminum pop rivet will do quite well to hold them in. If you want extra security use the washer on the end of the pop rivet like Frank said.

Nick,
Those Al grommets for the studs can be replaced by cheaper plastic ones that just push on by hand. The Al grommet tool prices are crazy.
I get mine from Aircraft Spruce but from the looks of some of these posts I may be able to get them from Auto Parts stores, never thought to even ask.
I hope this doesn't confuse the issue. No grommets are needed for the springs, just for the studs.

I should have been more clear - I only replaced the spring.
