MCI J4500 - WOW.........
« on: April 17, 2006, 11:18:52 AM »
Just took a test drive in a 2007 MCI J4500 Motorhome Chasis...........WOW.................Very imperssive, ALL STAINLESS CHASIS - even the roof bows (stainless), roof panels (stainless), accelerates like a sports car, new suspension is incredible (hate to compare, but rides like an Eagle), I am truly impressed, we really drove it hard - passed with flying colors...................

Hey Rich did you happen to take any photos? What was the drivetrain combo? I love the look of the J series, to me it looks even better than the E's and it's great to hear it drove so well.

A friend drives on the side for a local company that has 3 of the J's, he loves them.  He really likes the new ASTronic 10 speed and the 60 Series.

I can remember thinking how can they improve on an MC9.  At the time I had 2 MC3's. Then the 102A3 came out, first drive, like you said WOW, that was 1986. So I can just imagine the improvements in a coach 21 years newer. Lucky you! Gives us dyed in the wool MCI guys something to strive for and dream about.

If your not a Bus Nut you wouldn't understand.

I had a chance to drive a 2004 J with Allison+Retarder and 60 series last week.  Then today, a 2003 J with 10 speed ZF and Cat.  Both are beautiful and drive like a charm.  They'd make great converions.  I drove them for a local company that is high on looks.  One was blue with chrome mirror stripping.  The other was red with gold mirror stripping.  Awesome on looks and driviing. Hope you get chance to drive them as well.

Uh.. No you don't...
They keep him bungee corded to his desk and his chair has chains on it. :o

Whips and Cattle Prods are standard issue at IBP.. Otherwise everyone would want to play too much !

He does escape but they always find him in the parking lot drooling over some new gadget.... ::)

RIGHT - Everyone wants to be me...............(Just long enough to get enough parts into there pickup).
It is pretty cool sometimes to meet you all & see what you have done with your Coaches. Some pretty cool stuff out there...I can only imagine what some of you could do with that kind of chasis (new J4500).

Ken, this coach has a Caterpillar C13 410HP engine, ZF ASTronic transmission, automatic traction control, 2005 ZF Intarder, Lucas all-wheel disc brakes with automatic brake slack adjusters,  46' turning radius, 86" interior height, 595 cubic feet of luggage compartment storage.....I could go on......................................

Thanks

Rich

:) :) :)
...traction control, 2005 ZF Intarder, Lucas....
So, I've been on the boards three years now and this was the first I think I heard the term, "intarder".
Sometimes I'm intarded and sometimes I'm retarded. How do I know? :)

BTW, had to do a google search and most of the results were from the EU, so it must be more common there.

Chuck,

You may be on to something.

Remember when Rich went on that "so called Christmas reunion". ;) And couldn't make to Bussin 2006...

Does anyone really know where he went? ???

Maybe it was actually a secret EU meeting! :o

And the "intarder" was just a slip of the tounge. :'(

Inquiring minds need to know.

Rich, time to fess up..................

How was the Astronic tranny?  Someone made a comment here or on BNO about the Allison B500 shifting a lot smoother.  They said the Astronic was more like a manual tranny with the harsh shifts and so on.

I noticed just today that MCI says they can replace a B500 with a Astronic for the same or less than replacing a failed B500.  I sure hope my B500 never goes out since a reman is just over $10K!
