Power rating for 6V92 with 7G75 Injectors ???
« on: July 19, 2011, 08:30:38 AM »
Just got a hand on a 6v92 with no data plates on it. only known fact for now is that it has 7G75 injectors.   what will be the available power , and what will  be the next biggest injector that can be used in it??

Depends on the camshaft, Ca cam engines 271 hp other engines 294 hp good setup for smoke control and fuel economy I would leave it alone it will last longer

good luck

If you have G injectors it would have Federal Cams (277 HP) and you can go with 9G90's for 350 HP.  A fuel modulator would be a nice addition to keep the smoke down at take off.

I have 90 injectors in my 6V92. I control the black smoke with my right foot. It is quite easy to do once you get used to it. I find you don't get any more power by pushing the pedal farther, just black smoke, which is wasted fuel. It is nice to be able to blow smoke at tailgaters to keep them off your bumper ;)

I installed 9G75's in my 8V-71 and it would smoke like a train on take off.  Then installing the fuel modulator (installs on the left head and has a hose to the intake to sense turbo boost).  Now get just a bit of black smoke at take off then clears out.  Much easier then trying to do it with your right foot-course mine is an air throttle which is not as accurate as a linkage foot throttle-but much lighter pressure, so not so tiring on the leg.  I would take Geoff's suggestion and intall 9G90's for 350hp @ 2300rpm and 1050lb/ft torque.  Will make for a much more lively engine.  Good Luck, TomC

Better do your home work before just dropping a set of 9g90 injectors in that engine you may create you a monster you will regret later not always as easy as some make it sound lol

good luck

When increasing injector size, you might also have to change the hot side of the turbo-or the whole turbo, change the timing on the cams, and the radiator might not be up to the extra heat strain.  If the bus runs alright with the 75's, just run it-you'll get better mileage anyway.  Besides, how fast do you need to go up that hill?  Even changing to 90 injectors, you might get 5 mph better on the hills-that's all.  Good Luck, TomC

you need to know where the engine came from. If it is from the urban bus industry then there is a good chance that it has .750 liner ports in it, if it does more fuel will not help.It will also probably have a TV7301 turbo. At 1800 rpm it will not let anymore air into that engine. You will need to change the cylinder kits to .950 ports. If it is from a urban bus it will have one of these camshafts depending on the year it was put together. It will have either J39-J40 J41 or ccts camshafts, if it is a ddec it will have either J41 or J42 camshafts, all of those cams require a diffrent injector setting. You need to find more info on this engine. The most popular settings were 254hp 277hp with a few at 291 and 305 hp. the 291 and 305 used a 850 port liner. Did this engine have a catalytic converter on it, if so who's was it.

Hope this helps

thanks for the info so far.

the bus is a LACTMA    (metro) bus. i was asking , as this is basicly the same bus that i have, but it feels like it has way less power then mine. it will show hills on the accellerator before you can see them.

i will go deeper into the numbers this weekend.  for now i know only it has 7g75 injectors, the turbo shows AR95  and it has a extra converter chamber in the exhaust.

same ht748 transmission, but the bus is building up more heat while climbing empty, then mine towing a 10k trailer.

hope i know more after the weekend

at least
engine starts with no smoke, and used 1/4 gal rotella on 800 miles  with a wet spot at the alternator flange.
