Detroit Diesel Tune Up Kit on ebay, worth the money??
« on: November 09, 2011, 02:21:20 AM »
I usually don't link to ebay stuff here but someone might want to take a look at auction No 130599080530. It is a Snap-On PB-25 tune up kit for a Detroit Diesel,  buy-it-now price of $150.00, seems to me a good price, I gave $300.00 for a Kent Moore set recently and thought that was a good buy. It has one bid hope that is not someone here but I bet it goes for the buy-it-now price.....Shipping looks high, no connection with seller do your home work, might not be as good a deal as I am thinking??

not really, evidence that I did a complete tuneup and rack adjustment and installed jake brakes on my engine.  I used my normal tool kit, nothing special.  But if I had to do it in the bus, particularly our MC5's, the kit would make it a lot easier.  Timing the injectors with a gauge instead of a depth mic, having the off-set wrenches for the push-rods, having the rack tool, the throttle delay pin, the go-no go for the gap.  Plus it depends on your definition of common tools.  I have a Bridgeport and I think that's a common tool   ;D  I  made a .062 gauge for when i set up my jake brake.  I think making a .062" go/no go gauge is easy, others might find it difficult.

If you are going to buy a kit MAC has the best but you will pay for it Snap/On has 4 different variations of the kit, that one I would not have paid 185 bucks for the set looks to used up and the timing pins are going to be tough to use on a engine with Jakes
Do not think for a minute Snap/On will warranty any wore out components in that case that won't happen in real life lol

IMO the Kent set on Ebay at 200 now is a better buy

good luck
Life is short drink the good wine first
