The headlight/taillight conversion on the Duluth 04 was probably done while in revenue service with GH or alike. GH did the same conversion to several Scenics as well.

Hey

Did I give you 3148? Fred Rayman looked at it a few weeks ago in Guthrie, OK (North of OKC)

An old converted band bus.

On a field trip today with my notes, so here is an update:

Converted coaches 205
Noted on web.            33
Scrapped.                    55  I know this number is much higher.
Still a bus/shell.         21

For the number crunchers in the group:

1953 GM made 773 - 4104's,   at least 33 survive
1954 GM made 527 buses, at least 11 survive
1955 GM made 265 buses, at least 13 survive
1956 GM made 400 buses, at least 21 survive
1957 GM made 1105 buses, at least 43 survive
1958 GM made  796 buses,  at least 32 survive
1959 GM made  489 buses, at least 31 survive
1960 GM made.  711 buses, at least 42 survive

I wrote an article for BCM on this search.  Watch for it.

I am the proud new owner of GMC PD 4104-3617 conversion. Located Citrus Springs, FL. Will post photos soon. Would appreciate any tips on history, and locating rubber parts (hinges, window seals, air line, etc.).
Best regards, Samuel

Tom,

Here is what my notes say:

25 coaches in the still a bus file.

3 are shells at last owner contact.

That leaves 22 buses seated.

Of those 22, there are at least 5 in South America.
My contacts in Latin America say there may be more in Central America. Dont have any contacts there yet.

So 17 seated 4104s in USA so far. Any of those in Canada? That is not many for sure. I have about 25 seated Scenics on my list. Sad news for 4104s, as there were 6 times as many 04s made than 4501s. Maybe your numbers will increase with time. I find in most years I get only about 2-3 new 4501 serial numbers (over the 15 years that I have been counting). That probably does not begin to keep pace with the number that are scrapped every year. I just heard about another Scenic that was scrapped recently somewhere in AZ. (only sketchy details so far) I'm sure at some point I will stop getting any new numbers added.

Keep up the good work.  Take care

There,s a 4501 in the yard of a bus company on hwy 50 in Clermont, FL. The next time I go that way I'll try to get its number in case it's not on your list. I believe it is essentially a historical display.

Best regards, Samuel

Sounds like PD4501-932 at ABC Bus (near Lake Apopka, FL) I believe that is HWY 50. Bus is painted in Faribo Lines livery from Faribault, MN (1970s charter livery) Sound right?

Thanks for the info.

Take care
