Looking for another bus
« on: November 21, 2012, 06:29:55 AM »

  Hello,

I have a question to ask, A friend of mine is looking for a MCI with a wheel chair lift. is there such a thing?

I have never seen one, only on the smaller shuttle buses.

   Thanks!

Lots of them to choose from, depending on your price point.

The best of them for busnut use,  in my opinion, would be a 102AW3, the lift is inside a bay like an elevator.

However, this model is fairly rare, the compromises for it to be that good cost more money and space than the coach industry was willing to accept.

All the rest are external affairs where you are outside during the lift.

Lots of choices in the 20 year old and younger coaches, the D, DL, E, J, models all came with the option, and with ADA legislation, you have many many coaches to choose from as they reach the age/price point you desire.

There are other buses with lifts.  We have a 1992 Neoplan shell with a lift.  It folds up on the inside about 12 inches deep floor to ceiling. When we were going to build this shell,  we had planned on a shallow swinging cabinet to cover it from the inside when not in use.

MCI had several options for lifts, many aftermarket.  The elevator lift had the double doors halfway back at street level, the interior floor dropped down to curb height and you rolled in. Some had lifts mounted in the belly of the bus that rolled out and some had the entire lift inside the passenger area that would swing out.
I happen to like the ones in the belly that roll out.  I do have a MCI 102A3 with chair lift for sale if someone was interested. Very clean well cared for bus. Mike 562 972 2158
I may have started it, but you'll have to finish it!

I was watching one of the local "Pace" buses one day as we have a guy in a wheelchair in my neighborhood.  The front steps came alive and flattened out.  Then they lowered to the ground so the wheelchair could roll on and be picked up.  Theought that was a pretty neat design. Ed

I have seen ones that lower the steps, I didn't know they flattened out!

  Thanks!
